Real Event OCD/Signs

So I have been obsessing over a real event that happened 25 years ago. It flares up from time to time but this time it has stuck for every single day for 8 months all day long. Anyways it’s gotten to the point that everywhere I look or anything I see will be about something that matches the theme of my obsession. Then I start to wonder is God telling me something or showing me signs of confirmation that my fears are true. Not sure if anyone else has experienced seeing signs every where that point to your obsession

I have an OCD fear of losing my salvation. And basically EVERY time I open my Bible to a random page, kinda looking for a sign, I’ll turn to a passage about God condemning people. I know now that these are definitely not signs from God! I have gotten to the point where I laugh at it now (when my looking for a sign fails). In my experience, you will probably never get a sign when OCD is rattling around. If God was wanting to speak to you, He would have something encouraging and uplifting to say to you. He wouldn’t try to scare you or make you feel condemned.

I have struggled with the doubting of my salvation most of my life. I have had ocd over that for years and years. Just seems like once I get passed one obsession another latches on and won’t let go. It’s just a horrible cycle

@GHOST22 - The thing about the signs is I Will ask God to give me a word or give me clarity on on what happened years ago and moments later I see something on you tube or Al hear something on the radio that triggers my ocd about my theme and I wonder is God talking to me. Then I read stuff that talks about how the brain works and it says that if you are constantly thinking of something all the time then your brain will subconsciously pick those things out and you see it everywhere.

Maybe right now you have your attention focused on the “problem” of what happened 25 years ago. But maybe you can choose to put that on the shelf for a few months. And try to focus on your even deeper needs of a heart that has been broken by OCD. You need to know that God forgives you. He works all things for good, even mistakes. He loves you in your current state of imperfection. When you are struggling, God moves closer to you, not farther away. Consider spending time feeding these these truths in your life. When we have OCD, our hearts are broken in these areas. It’s like our hearts are crying out for nurture in these areas, because we have spent so much time with perfectionism and self-hatred and being militantly hard on ourselves.

Also, if something is bothering you from 25 years ago, I am so so sorry. Please have compassion on yourself for what you suffered by feeling guilt for so long. God doesn’t want you to suffer like that! I have a person to recommend to you who might help. Have you heard of Mark DeJesus? He is a Christian who has gone through OCD himself, and he writes a lot about grace, guilt, and how we can live in the love of God.

I have struggled with an OCD fear of losing my salvation almost all my life. Right now I am trying to feed the truth (little by little) each day: God promises that I am not going to lose my salvation.

I have always looked for signs all through the day for most of my life. I have come to learn that most everything that I thought was from God is actually not from God. And it wouldn’t be good for follow it. When we have OCD, we have tons of confusion about what is from God and what isn’t. Therefore, a person with OCD often has to learn that they can’t look for signs everywhere because we get confused very easily.

God is capable of making his will clear. And when he does so, he will refresh you and build you up. He won’t use fear, guilt, and condemnation.

The signs I’m seeing just seem to happen so often that I’m like no way this can be an accident, but the signs I see are always negative and just pointing to the very thing I don’t wanna keep obsessing about. They give me a negative answer to my uncertainty in my ocd that I’m trying to get the truth. It’s probably my ocd but man it sure is convincing and horrible

I keep asking God to tell me if the outcome of my real event happened a certain way because I have no idea. And it seems like daily I get a sign that points to the worst case scenario of an outcome. Nothing is ever positive and it just seems so frequent to be a coincidence. But I also read that the more you think of something the more your mind will find it somewhere

Real Event OCD v. False Memory

Does anyone have advice on distinguishing between real event ocd and false memory ocd? If my current obsession is whether this intrusive image in my head is a real memory even though there’s no evidence it is, does that seem more like real event ocd or false memory? I feel like I’m getting into a trap of worrying that I’m obsessing over a real event instead of a false image and keep having thoughts that say “you know you did this” even though I really don’t think I did.

Real Event Ocd

My ocd latches on to past mistakes. i fear that God is formulating a situation to “give me what i deserve.” I will string together completely unrelated events into the predictors/indicators that my ‘judgement day’ is near and all my wrongdoings will be exposed for everyone to see and my life will be ruined by finally getting the punishment i deserve. I fear that God is going to use someone who is out to get me, wants revenge, hates me, etc, to carry this out. The associated compulsion is that i keep track of my mistakes and practice arguments for defending myself so that when the time comes im ready for anything. I also punish myself with guilt so that i can “get ahead” on any bad feelings that i would experience on my judgement day. It’s all so exhausting. Does anyone relate? Does anyone have a similar existence? Would love to hear about others’ experiences. Thank you for reading.

Are really odd coincidences common in FM/ocd?

Like things that feel like ‘evidence’ and clues…. It’s like I can’t let these things go. I’m not talking about ‘signs from the universe’ , I mean actual real life things your ocd is using against you. Not reassurance seeking.
