I have a mix between harm ocd and religious ocd. It sucks so bad I miss the Christian I was. Sometimes the intrusive thoughts will sound like instruction from god to do harm. I know it’s a load of crap but when it happens it can be distressing. I hate that it latches on to the things we love the most. If any of you have experienced this or have your own complex mixes I feel for you ❤️🩹 hang in there.

@ Skyline 🕊️ I’m making it through it does get better I can honestly say . Praise the Lord , but I want to also leave you with a scripture I used to get through , if you get a chance read Proverbs 3:5-6. It helped me so much. 🙌✨🌿
Hi! I have PureO and a few times things got so bad I figured God is the only help there is. I prayed asking for God’s help and when I least expected it that “still small voice” I knew could only be God was in my mind and gave me peace. Doesn’t happen all the time. But when it does, I know it’s for real. God Be With You!
Uh hi. So i’m kind of going through something similar literally right now. where i had a thought that said “god said you have to do this harm thing” and i’m really freaked out. could you share a little more about your experience? because then i get a little better but then it’s like an intrusive guilt feeling for not listening to god and i’m like what the heck
@kodyisland Hey Kody! I can’t really share exactly what happens to me because I don’t want to trigger a ton of people. I can sort of tell you that it usually sounds like a “god” voice instructing me to do something that’s not good at all. Just as you described it. The thought scares me and the feelings are intense. I can’t describe it any other way. You can find me on discord as well and I’ll be happy to share more specific details but that’s all I can offer you on here. It really sucks I know it’s not gods voice because he would never instruct us to do harm. ❤️🩹 just our ocd brains. Hang in there.
GIRL!!! i struggle so hard discerning the voice of God. but if there is one thing i know it’s that His voice is always from a place of love. whether it’s correction or encouragement. it will never be from a place of hatred. God hates sin. not His creation.
@bootscoot&boogie Yes!! 🙌 Having ocd is so difficult. I realize that there’s moments when it’s so scary and you just feel so confused. It’s like this constant battle between common sense/what you know to be true and confusion over what OCD is trying to tell you is true. Hang in there❤️🩹
Hang in there! That is ocd trying to trick you. It’s taking something you love so much and respect God so much it wants to make you afraid. Keep reading the Bible and going to church. Expose yourself to all his truth no matter how hard it is and those thoughts come in. Praying with you friend. I remember this so well. It’s scary but I believe in you!
@dee.dee.m It’s so difficult I’ve gotten so far from my faith afraid of triggering myself. Honestly haven’t been to church in ages but I agree with you. It would be good. Can I ask? How did you handle those thoughts while actively going to church and reading the Bible?
@ Skyline 🕊️ - I kept going. The thoughts came in and I was scared. I did a compulsion. But the more I did it and fought back they went away. From time to time it creeps in. But I just keep going. I know the more I do it they eventually just decrease and if they come I know how to dismiss them. I’m looking forward to ERP because I really want to do it better. Because there is much more I would love to improve on.

i totally get how tough that mix of harm ocd and religious ocd can be, especially when it messes with your faith and your sense of self. it's really brave of you to share and reach out. remember, you're not alone in this struggle. ❤️ since i'm battling a different ocd theme, i might not have the exact answers, but i've found some resources super helpful. there's this app called "unstuck ocd therapy tools" that my local ocd support group recommended. it's pretty neat because it offers ai-personalized guidance and exercises right when you need them. also, the ocd reddit has been a great place for me to feel less isolated and to read about others' experiences and coping strategies. hope this helps a bit!
Does anyone else struggle with knowing which thought or voice is from god or if it’s just your ocd?
Anyone here struggle with intense, intrusive thoughts and is also a Christian? It’s been so hard to believe that God can forgive me for the thoughts that I have been dealing with specifically related to causing harm to those I love, myself and even total strangers, and as a follower of Jesus I’ve wondered so many times how on earth could I possibly have thoughts like this? It terrifies me
I put a trigger warning on this for people who have scrupulosity just in case. I have religious OCD and it is really hard to go through. It goes “f you Jesus” “sorry God I didn’t mean that I love you” “f the devil I love Jesus” “I hate the devil I love Jesus” “I love the devil” “no that’s not true I’m sorry God I didn’t mean that” “f you Satan” in my head all day. And then I’ll be listening to the radio and listening to KLove (which is a Christian radio station) and I’ll have what I call contradictory thoughts which is when one or many of my thoughts contradicts the truth of God. Because it will be that Jordan Feliz song and he’ll say “the king is alive” and my brain will say “no he isn’t” and it will send me into an annoyed spiral. “Yes He is I’m sorry Jesus I know you’re alive”. If anyone else goes through something similar to this please let me know so I can feel less alone.
