Birth Control and OCD

Hey ladies! I just had a consult with my OB about trying birth control again. I was just diagnosed with OCD and a tic disorder, finally after my whole life lol. I tried an antidepressant for a few months after starting to really be debilitated by my panic attacks and anxiety, but the ssri made me feel worse.. borderline suicidal. Going off increased it as well and then I was diagnosed. I decided I would feel more comfortable with trying birth control again tovhelp with the hormonal aspect, since I can just stop taking the pill without worrying about that happening. I also have PCOS, and possibly PMDD based on my symptoms. I know PMDD can increase OCD. All that to ask, are any of you on Yaz or another bcp? How has your experience been?

I don’t have a complete answer for you but just saw this post while scrolling. I’m 13 months postpartum and almost 1000% certain I have PMDD. This past cycle I just had just triggered my OCD beyond belief. The worst I have ever had and the scariest I’ve ever had.

I'm almost 16 months pp! It got worse after having my baby, got my first pp period a few months later after stopping pumping. And then when baby turned 6 months my mom passed. So I think it all ties together, but man the PMS is insane. Tried an antidepressant and that was the scariest my mind has been.. I only feel okay when my period is here! Even then, like last month, I was miserable. So sorry you understand!

I have kyleena IUD and I don't wanna scare you away but I had a bad experience for the first 2 years. I felt BONKERS and then I would be in pain and then start to Google and Google and Google the symptoms. I have friends who have used it and are fine so I don't wanna scare you away everyone's body is so different. But in summary I noticed the iud was not exactly helpful for my ocd or just life in general... on a positive note... it's doing its job so far 😅😅😂😂

I’m on Yaz. It’s slowly but surely helping at first it was causing hormonal problems

Zoloft. Got off of them and they wanted me to try Prozac but just not ready yet lol

@Superman78 Ugh see I’m so scared to start/try Zoloft for this exact reason!! I’m having some really bad intrusive thoughts not even on Zoloft and I am so horrified how it’s gonna make me feel because I’ve heard so many people say that it’s made them feel the way you said

@HayBD I know everyone's different. I even took a gene test first. I hate that we can't just know how it will affect us. Maybe see if your doctor can start you on something different if you really feel you need meds. I'm still open to trying something else. But not before I try bcp lol

@HayBD Also, pp is a lot even without OCD. Mentally and physically. PP OCD is a thing too! Are you in therapy currently?

@Superman78 I just wanted to share that I had a horrible experience with Zoloft and avoided SSRIs for a long time. Finally tried Lexapro and it’s been fine. I stared off microdosing and slowly have increased.

Looking for insight on OCD/depression medications

(25f) Before I was diagnosed with OCD I tried Lexapro (wasn’t bad but wasn’t great) and Citalopram (partially think it was a part of what caused me to develop severe anxiety that ignited my once not so active OCD.) After diagnosis tried Effexor and didn’t see an improvement. Was on Adderall for a good amount of my life and mentally did good on it, stopped about 2 years ago because the physical side effects started to become more noticeable. Maybe I go back on Adderall? Maybe SSRI’s and I aren’t a great fit? Anyone taking other medications that helped?

OCD

Good morning to all. I have OCD and have had it since high school. However, I was not formed diagnosed until 2003, when I was 45 . I have a psychiatrist and Licensed therapist, and have been on Zoloft/sertraline ever since. Currently I have to have cataract surgery in a few weeks and I am very anxious about the whole thing. Of course this has been a trigger for my OCD and dealing with it the best I can. Any thoughts ?

OCD worse than ever-life changes

I have had OCD my whole life and was diagnosed by a therapist 2 years ago. Specifically I struggle a lot with health, contamination and pure ocd. I was doing exposures and really felt like I conquered by contamination ocd. With the health ocd I have an intense fear I will have a food or medicine allergy and go into anaphylactic shock. This takes up a lot of my energy day to day. Within the past year, we bought a home, renovated and recently got married. My husband wants to start trying for a baby soon but I am not ready at all because of how much I feel like I have gone backwards with my anxiety and ocd. This spiked a lot with the stress of wedding planning. I’m scared pregnancy will spike my health/contamination ocd even more and I won’t be able to handle it. I always wanted babies but now that it’s getting closer and I know how much ocd I truly have I am so nervous I will cause myself and baby more stress than good. Does anyone have positive stories of TTC/pregnancy/PP and motherhood with ocd?
