Eclipse

Just obsessing because I’m worried I damaged my retinas because I didn’t realize the sun could cause damage throughout a span of a couple of hours and I thought it was just during the peak of the eclipse. I should have been more prepared. I was walking out to my car to head home probably like 15 mins before the peak of the eclipse and the sun reflected off my car into my eye for a second. And then I was in my car worried and I have a sun roof and i glanced up and saw it for a split second again. So I just feel like I should have better prepared and wish I could go back and not been careless. I keep trying to look things up but idk.

I'm in the exact same situation. I feel like I my screen looks blurry but idk cuz I can still read everything, it was just a quick glance but everything online is written to sound like that's all it takes

@OCDoesntcontrolme YES I am in the same boat. I keep checking to make sure my vision is normal and I feel like at times it is blurry for a second. Because you are right the stuff online makes it seem so extreme. Something that is helping me is reminding myself that OCD has led me to feel this way before (like thinking I feel certain symptoms because I’m fixating on them)

Yes exactly! I worry like this over a lot of things, and I did see an article that estimated 150 million people in North America watched the 2017 eclipse and there were around 100 cases of eye damage! So that number is encouraging, it's just so scary and I know that my OCD can fall right into those scare articles. I keep checking my vision as well, every few moments to see if there's a blind spot or blurry spot, or if it's in my head. And something else said a lot of it can be temporary too, but idk it's really scary I guess only time will tell, which is the hardest thing for someone with OCD haha

@OCDoesntcontrolme I saw that article too!! That also made me feel a little better. It is also difficult because the news and media always just puts out things that are scary and negative since people usually latch onto those things. But people with OCD will latch on to another extent. Yeah uncertainty is the hardest part. I keep telling myself that what I am obsessing about isn’t in my control. I think it is also telling that both of us are experiencing this, and we have OCD. So that gives some evidence that our fears are being taken to the next level for that reason. Not because we are right but because our brains are working against us right now

@anniebanannie I think you're exactly right, and it just sucks because even knowing that, I'm sure we are going to be stressed out for a couple days lol. Sitting with the uncertainty is a good ERP opportunity, it's just scary when it's something so important. If I wasn't having health insurance issues atm, I would probably go to the ER and get myself checked tbh, and you're totally right having OCD can you latch onto crazy ideas, always the worst case ones lol

@OCDoesntcontrolme Yes definitely. It is so hard because even when we understand what is behind this, it doesn’t take away the urgency or fear that comes with it. It’s like I don’t believe myself when I try to tell myself it is ok. But yes you are right. I keep trying to think back to my previous obsessions and how those ended up ok. But it does just take some time. It definitely is a good form of ERP - not having the answers and having to sit with the unknown

I do the same thing, but can get in my own head about things that "made" them turn out the way they did, instead of the worst case scenario I was thinking about. And yeah you're right, the feeling is what is really awful, and can make you think it's real, and when you tell yourself it's okay you feel like you're gaslighting yourself haha. I appreciate that we are going through the same thing, want to try and make sure to update tomorrow with how our eyes are doing?

How do I get over this intrusive thought?

Hello, I was driving last night and i hit a bump in the road like felt like a massive pothole but the road i was driving on (i drive on it almost everyday) and i’ve convinced myself that I hit someone or something. I had my mom drive by there again about 20-30 mins later and there was nothing but she said it looked like a hole was filled by rain water. I drove by later that night and didn’t see it so I’ve convinced myself that if something happened, it was cleared out in that time. Is there anything I can do to help myself feel better.

Hit and run OCD

I was driving when I passed by 2 kids playing with a ball in their front yard, their ball made it to the street, I slowed down and continued my route and looked back to to make sure they’re ok and when I got home I started getting intrusive thoughts that I ran over the kid 😢

Keep checking cameras

On Sunday at work I was stressed and I was anxious all day about ruining my relationship and I disappeared off camera for 2 min and 30 seconds and I’m trying to figure out why and it’s bothering me because I don’t remember I know all morning I was trying to stay on camera so I can prove to myself that I was fine but I think as the day went on like after I video called my boyfriend I felt better and wasn’t paying too much attention to being off camera but I went into the back of the store like the kitchen area and there’s no camera so I was off camera for 2 min 30 seconds and it’s scaring me because idk what I was doing so I’m trying to figure it out and it’s driving me nuts my mind is saying that I did something to ruin my relationship in those 2 min and 30 seconds and I’m so anxious and spiraling I can’t stop thinking about it and talking about it. I just want to enjoy my relationship without feeling guilty.
