I'm going to take up drawing again so when I can't do anything else, I have that to distress. I struggle with down time 😬 Are there any artists you like and can recommend to me? I want some references to go off to help me get better.
I mean low-key I was a awesome artist in hs. I don't draw much cause I'm busy with college stuff. But any I would do is I would just look up on YouTube dif artists and go from what ones I like. And get insop from. Idk if that helped. Or u can look at two or three different artists you like and take some of each of there styles to reference and try to find your own style. If ud want
Ahhh I’m an artist!!!! :D What sort of style are you looking to delve into? Cartoons? Anime? Realism?
Cyberpunk, steampunk, fantasy and anime, maybe realism. Mainly focusing on fantasy/ steam punk. I want to draw stuff that'll go with the story I want to write to give me more inspiration for it

@Wolfram Okay!! Hmmm So for fantasy/steam punk I’d def look into concept art from games such as “Bloodborne,” “Lies of P,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” and just the “Dark Souls” series in general. Lots of incredible, INCREDIBLE environment, monster design, etc. Of course it is on the darker side of art so if you’re looking for something more light hearted, maybe look into the cartoon “Unicorn Warriors Eternal.” Made by the same people who did “Samurai Jack!” For anime steampunk, there is the game “The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures,” which has some great character designs. Also look into the “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” anime! Haven’t seen it, but it apparently is quite the masterpiece! That’s all I can think of off the top of my head!!!
@Wolfram I use Procreate on my iPad to draw!! It all depends on what tools you have available. Do you have a laptop or an Ipad?
@Cinnamoroll I was looking at a lot of procreate stuff, and procreate dreams to learn animations for doing a video on ocd. You've convinced me to get it😊
@Cinnamoroll Thank you for all the suggestions. I loved elden ring and the world design so definitely going to look at the dark souls stuff. Unicorn warriors has some nice environmental stuff too. I used to love samurai Jack as a kid. Will definitely look at some more cyberpunk stuff. The anime was good and highlighted how screwed up and dark the world could get, definitely give it a watch if you're bored. Thanks you so much for the thoughtful replies. I really appreciate it and I'm getting excited to draw again. Ooh another style on looking into is ghibli. Always loved their work

@Wolfram Yayy!!! While I haven’t used Procreate Dreams specifically I have heard good things about it! I have tried animating on just the regular Procreate app and it’s not bad—but I def recommend an animation specific program like Procreate Dreams to get the full experience! I’ve also considered making OCD related art—it could really help spread awareness online. If you ever post anything on Youtube or on social media you’d def have to share a link here! Exciting!!!!
@Cinnamoroll Spirited away is my favourite film. I'm not hating on Disney but kinda wish I grew up with ghibli instead 😅

@Wolfram I grew up on both and tbh, I love old Disney. Not the largest fans of the newest films (CGI took away so much of Disney’s character), but the OG animated films are excellent. Works of art. And as for Studio Ghibli, everything is beautiful 🤷♀️

Was just remembering and ruminating on extremely traumatic and disturbing drawings I looked at as a teen. I'm trying to move past it because I cannot go back and unsee what I've seen, it's so difficult though. Feeling like people would look at me with disgust and I don't deserve the love that I crave desperately.
I used to post my art online a lot, and I was so proud of it. But the last year or so, my OCD has been making me feel like I don't deserve to post because "no one would support me if they knew how flawed of a person I am." Today, I got a message from a stranger saying they missed seeing my art and wished I would start posting again. It was soo damn nice, and I wanted to be happy about it, but my fears immediately hit me hard. Would this person still want to follow or support me if they knew everything about me? Of course, my therapist pointed out that there are sooo many people out there who post constantly and have no problem asking their supporters to help them, and surely they're also flawed people, but they don't let it hold them back. I know I'm only human... but I've seen so many people gain success, only to get knocked down, and it terrifies me. This is probably my biggest internal struggle. Sometimes, I want to give up art completely, but the little kid in me who dreamed of being an artist is saying, "Why are you giving up on us?" I feel kinda weird posting about this, but I hope you guys get where I'm coming from. If anyone has any insights or thoughts on this topic, I'd reeeeally appreciate them.
Anyone else really wanna pursue their dreams, but imposter syndrome and OCD thinking holds them back? For me, it’s my art. I’ve had some success with my art, and it’s been really exciting, but then I think of all the things I regret and the mistakes I made, and I’m terrified, so I recoil. I never feel like I deserve it. All those artists who’ve been praised for their art by the masses, I imagine them as being perfect. I know it’s not true, but I mean, how can you put yourself out there these days and not know you have no skeletons in the closet?? I see people making reels and they’re so confident and carefree, and I think, “I bet they’ve never made any really big mistakes, or else they’d be terrified of having themselves out there.” I’m probably projecting. Maybe they’re just as terrified deep down. Maybe that’s what drives them. Maybe that’s what makes their art so touching. All I really wanna do is impact other people with my art. Maybe there’s a selfish part of me that relies on the praise, and that’s the part I need to let go of. Whether I get praise or not, my art should just be something I’m proud of. If I can help someone with my art, that would be amazing. Like you guys. I feel like this community is my demographic, and even if the rest of the world turned away from me, the ones who’ve been in my shoes are the ones I should write for. Anyway, this is a huge issue for me and my OCD. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I would really love to hear them, because I feel pretty stuck.
