New hobby…

Because I’m travelling I’ve started taking a lot of photos and I’ve made the decision to make a hobby of it. Coincidentally I want to take photos of street people but feel rude or guilty about exploiting them. My solution is to give them money or food and ask for a photo in return. This crosses the line between begging and paid modelling work. Everybody is happy and the photos will even highlight their situation. I’ve wanted to do good work here since I arrived but didn’t want to feel like a mug. Here is my first photo of a lady that asked for money at the bus stand. She was a natural.

I like this. You could almost do an album. I remember a woman in goa that was friendly with my parents when I was over there. There was also a boy in Mumbai that we paid to give us a general tour of the area

@Wolfram I’ve been homeless and lived in homeless hostels too. I knew a few Big Issue sellers and I know the importance of their motto about being a hand up and not a hand out. While I’ve been broke I’ve had to turn beggars down so much and they had started putting beggar’s curses on me. Scary but funny at the same time lol. I think my money worries are mostly over now. I’m making an effort to buy from Indians too and not use Amazon or Uber if I can help it. I try to just use those apps as a price guide. I came to interact with India not Uber.

@NotSoNewb82 Wth is a beggars curse? I was convinced an d Indian woman tried to curse me randomly when I was a kid😅

@NotSoNewb82 I had an old woman talk to me when I was over there, I didn't understand and told her that and I walked off. Then she grabbed me and shook me violently. Felt weird
