People can definitely learn from different generations. NOCD should either state upfront that they allow minors and adults to be in this on-line community unmonitored, or discussed how they are keeping children safe. I saw neither disclaimers or forms of consent when I joined. I dont think it's appropriate to have minors on-line with adults they dont know. Especially given the sensitivity of some sub-types of OCD. It can be hard for adults to understand, let alone children who do not have that sub-type. And there is no way for adults here to know they are interacting with a minor, as we dont have our ages displayed. I let NOCD know my concerns, and they didnt seem to concerned. Which is alarming in itself. All I can do is remove myself. I'll look to join adult support groups. Thanks for your response :)

@JediMJ - For some reason I cant like your comment, but thank you for your words! I also thank you! Teachers hold a special place in my heart. Also, I had saw on the support groups that I was finally able to access, that there are some that 15+. So it seems 15 is the age NOCD focuses on for allowing permission to engage with adults? Why I dont know. Maybe their age of consent? Still dont agree with minors and adults being in shared spaces, but Im practice my OCD skills and let it go ha I said my piece of safety and thats all I can do. I hope you find a space that works for you too! Have you tried a therapist here yet? How has that gone? If you dont mind me asking. I had one session, not impressed. I think Im going to try some in person adult support groups through Kaiser and see how that feels. Best!

@Mercy Yes! Practice your OCD skills and let it go! Ha ha. You tried. So, I have a local therapist who is on a medical leave of absence…we had just figured out the OCD piece. They should be back soon, but if not I’ll probably find someone local. I’m not a big fan of virtual sessions. The intention of this app is good, but the non-moderated cries for help are so concerning. People are confessing and reassuring…doing things that probably aren’t helpful. Heck—I’ve probably done it! (I do usually write a disclaimer though! I’m not a therapist!) All that to say, it kind of doesn’t surprise me that you weren’t impressed with your session. I’m sure there are some good folks on here, helping people, but overall it’s kind of chaotic. With a few helpful tips and encouragement here and there. I think an in-person support group sounds great! I hope you find one that works. Someone recommended this book…The Self-Compassion Workbook for OCD by Kimberley Quinlan. She has a podcast called Your Anxiety Toolkit and I listened to a few episodes and liked what she had to say so I thought I’d get her book. I’ve read the first 2 chapters and I’ve found it helpful. For me, that self-compassion part is important…I’m too hard on myself, too critical. And I think I’ll just get frustrated if I don’t learn to be kind to myself when I’m doing ERP. (And I’m still not quite sure how that looks for me…those mental compulsions are tricky. I heard someone describe rumination as “problem solving gone awry.” That really resonated with me. But until recently, I didn’t even realize my thinking was problematic. Anyway, there’s hope! We’ll keep learning and growing. 🙂

@JediMJ - Thank you for also naming the set up of the platform and there be being no moderator. Im a social worker, as well as a therapist, and I have some concerns. But, Im just here trying to get help too, so Im mind my business ha I feel you on the self-compassion part. I literally told my therapist through NOCD today how the chaos and disorganization of NOCD makes my OCD worse and again the concern for minors and adults being on a shared platform. I even explained my concern for if NOCD can even hold OCD effectively, as the therapist forced me to do worksheets in session which I felt harmful. As if he's more concerned with getting certain things completed, although the deadline said May 10th. My therapist didnt even speak on anything or held space to process my feelings. Not even a sorry to hear that. Just "that's feedback", and continued on. He also thinks OCD is still an anxiety disorder and it's not. I understand not wanting to feed into obsessions/compulsions, but people with OCD need compassion too. Im try maybe 1 more therapist here to see if that's NOCD model. Because if so, I just can't. Anywho, Im happy for those on here it seems to be working for. But This model is not for me. Thanks for the recommendations! And hope your OCD journey of healing continues to go well. For me, realizing it was OCD was life changing, in a positive way. To finally have a name for this beautiful crazy mind of mine ha
