this is a genuine question i have bc when i was younger and had no internet restriction me and my friend stumbled upon on it and ever since my life has kinda changed. and i feel like it’s altered my mind even though i had stopped thinking or watching it. a little girl shouldn’t have seen anything like that and that’s why i became addicted and it’s so unfair. can anyone relate?
I think it depends on your type of OCD. I suffer from categories of OCD that have certainly become worse due to exposure to sexual and violent content on the internet at a young age. My therapist explained that this type of exposure to violent or sexual content can generate trauma in young brains, even if it is due to something seen on the internet that did not put you at real/physical risk. Consuming adult content frequently is also unhealthy and can cause more triggers. If you think this is being a trigger, it will certainly increase your level of anxiety and stress and this will culminate in dense periods with OCD. If you can, talk about it with your therapist. @star1232 I don't even remember tbh, but I was very young to the point where my brain was so immature and unprepared that I became addicted and it became a huge trauma. I currently deal with this in therapy, along with treatment for OCD as one thing ends up triggering the other

Sexual content can trigger ocd, but it can also alter your mind in other ways as it is inherently addictive. If you’ve stopped watching it and it still feels like it’s affecting your mind, it could be leftover from just how much impact that stuff has, or it could be OCD making you linger on it or a combination. It’s hard to say, but it is unfair to be exposed to it young because it has a big impact on brain chemistry especially at younger ages. It gets better though, I’ve gotten over issues with that in the past. Thoughts about it can still come up but they don’t have as big an impact as they used to. Are there specific thoughts that make you worried about how it might have altered your mind or still be affecting you? Those might be a place to look for an OCD pattern.
@120 it’s affecting me because i get these really bad sexual intrusive thoughts i mean i use to get them when i watched it and it changed how i saw people but the thoughts have gotten worse now and that was when i barely watched any and also these intrusive thoughts about my sexual orientation ☹️
@Abbyy980$ It sounds like OCD is involved in those intrusive thoughts, and having watched sexual content likely increases the triggers for these types of thoughts. A therapist would know more than I do.

Has anybody else been exposed to harmful content online? Like, as a child, being online I came across a lot of gross, graphic content. In middle school, I remember my best friend showing me a really messed up video and we would “laugh” at it because it was so “crazy”. I look back and realize we didn’t really fully grasp what we were watching. I’m so scared for gen alpha because when I was a kid online I was seeing a lot of messed up content on twitter and other apps and I didn’t have the tools to understand what was happening. Like not too long ago back in 2020 a man committed suicide on camera and I saw so many teenagers and children asking for the link to watch the video, and then people replying back to them “you don’t actually want to watch this, don’t be stupid” & etc. I’ve also seen a lot of people from my generation (gen z) talk about how they’ve seen gore amongst other things simply being a child on the internet. My unhealthy relationship to the internet has really traumatized me and it feeds into my OCD daily. I’m super over protective of any kids who are online and I make sure to set parental locks & stuff. I’ve been online since I was like 7 and I’ve seen way too much. People would post crazy shit & be laughing at it and stuff and now that I look back I realize none of that shit was normal but I was being exposed to it so much that it kind of became just a trending “internet spectacle” amongst teenagers specifically. I wish I was being protected as a child but a lot of kids have parents who don’t give af about them and I was one of them lmfaoo and I was just being exposed to hella harmful content and thought it was normal up until I reached like 16. A lot of people still act like it’s normal. Like I’ve seen a popular ig baddie post on her story that she goes on gore websites to watch real autopsy’s (and that’s not even the worst I’ve seen people talk about). It’s really scary and I think my generation (gen z) is the first to face this generational and cultural shift in the way that children are being raised because we were the first generation of children to have 24/7 access to the internet. Anybody else relate and does it also affect your OCD?
i stuggled with adult content/p0rn from ages 11-18 im 19 now and i stopped but now that i have ocd my brain keeps giving me intrusive thoughts abt sexual acts like in p0rn and it's worse bc i have pocd, so they make me have really awful sexual thoughts that i don't want, anyone else here having this issue?, they all stem from p0rn it's awful. i wish i wasn't exposed to that stuff now. I regret it so bad bc it's ruined my brain and makes my ocd so much worse
18+ please! Sorry if this inappropriate. Does anyone else deal with the consequences of having consumed pornography and has ocd? Can you tell me if you also have a lot of intrusive thoughts during sexual activity? I'm not proud to say that I had access to this type of content at a young age and it grew with me until the first years of my adult life. I only became aware of the extent of the damage when I received my ocd diagnosis and even though my therapist and I believe that I have had ocd since childhood, addiction to pornography was an important factor in making the disorder worse since I suffer from graphic images and sexual content intrusive thoughts I've been trying to learn how to have a good relationship with my sexuality without using pornography for a few months, but it's not always easy to use my imagination when I have some tabs open in my head that get in my way. I really can't and don't want to have access to any type of adult content anymore, but I always think it's easier to be able to "silence" intrusive thoughts. It's happened several times where I try to use my imagination and then I have an intrusive thought and I think I stimulated myself by thinking about it and it's just disgusting and I feel really bad. I've been trying to deal with this for months and with medical help for both problems, I really feel dirty and lost about it and I don't know how to make it stop. I spent days avoiding even thinking about anything sexual so I wouldn't have to deal with it, but my therapist said that this is also unhealthy and can become a compulsion, so I don't know what to do. Anyone who goes through/has gone through something similar?
