best ocd meds in ur opinion

@Phillip91 thank you thats actually a relief to hear! i had to educate my gp on it tbh because she said ‘most of my patients are on 50mg and it works great’ and i was like are you basing that off patients with ocd tho or just depression.. shes letting me increase it tho and i should be off the waiting list for seeing a psychiatrist soon who can prescribe it properly for someone with ocd so not long now

@HeartMama its so annoying that the ones that work well always have the worst side effects

@odie.j True, if I didn't have a family and tough job, I would enjoy the sleep though! Like a rock! I could sleep standing up on thr 200:)

It helps take the edge off and give some relief especially when I am really struggling or have been exposed to something too high for me, but it does not make the worries or the intrusive thoughts go away, just a little easier to dismiss and move on with the day.

@Anonymous7779 both me and my younger brother started on meds around 15/16, it depends what a doctor recommends for you though

@Anonymous7779 That would be a question for your medical dr. I was in my 30s when I finally tried it but I wonder if I had been on it at a younger age if I wouldn't have spiraled back into ocd after having about 15 years if semi peace from it.

@Anonymous7779 That's such an individual decision, but of you are at the point of considering a different option, it's probably bad enough. The first month is tough, stomach pains and discomfort, but I did feel much better with it and was able to start making more progress. I've had ocd since I was 17, but honest probably since I was younger, and if I knew what I know now, I would have been asking for meds at 17. Erp for me is working well without the meds but 3-4 years ago, I was having panic attacks every single day. It helped me function and keep my job and take care of my family. I was so against trying them, but they really helped me so much. I used to take my rescue med 3 x a day, gradually my dosing dropped my rescue med became backup, I started managing somewhat with hypnosis and all that had made me ready for ERP, and it is helping. I feel better than I have in years. I'd you are in ERP, I would talk with your therapist and your Dr, they will help you make the right decision for where you are.

@Anonymous7779 You may have to have your parents permission BUT if you have the right Dr and the right therapist advocating for you, they may listen. I get it from the parent perspective but we want our children to be happy and healthy and icd is just so hard and awful. I hope they can understand how sick it can make you and will consider. If you are 17, you will be making your own decisions in a year, there are other things that I tried before meds that did help. One was having a lavender oil that I could open and inhale when I felt really overwhelmed, scents hit your mind sometimes before the thought does and I have had okay experience using that both before I took meds and in addition too. It's a good tool for someone with limited options that is really safe. I wish you peace and if you can do ERP, it really does help, so far for me much better than meds.

@HeartMama yea it’s very hard when new triggers come up that i can’t even control how bad i feel so medicine seems useful. i’ve tried lavender oil pills they are nice. erp is so scary and triggering for me rn but i know it’s what will work so i do need to start it. thank u for ur reply. how are you doing?

@Anonymous7779 ERP is scary for me too, I have avoided it for years because I “wasn’t ready”, but other treatments don’t solve the root problem. Exposures without tools are terrifying, but have response tools like scripts, ners, loop tapes, etc have made a big difference for me quickly. I like that you said meds could be useful, that’s exactly what last nights live stream said. And they are another tool. Have you been able to talk to your parents to see if they may reconsider?

@HeartMama no cause they think i’m not really doing erp and trying hard enough with that and they’re concerned abt side effects. i do need to work harder, so i guess they’re right

@Anonymous7779 I see well, I think that the ERPnis difficult but I bet you are stronger than you think. And to give you some encouragement, I have taken meds but am choosing to do ERP without them. I hope that makes you feel supported and seen. It’s a brave thing, to do he ERP. It sounds like your parents believe in you though, that they see a bravery in you that ocd tries to convince us we don’t have. I hope your journey leads you to the very best life!
