I have reached a point where I can’t see any family member without a groinal response. I know I’m not supposed to give it any investigation but it’s to the point where it’s all consuming. Any tips on ‘un’feeling?
Hi! I have a really similar situation but with specific people because of my ROCD and even so ocd, pocd, etc. because it comes with false attraction. First of all, gronial response is a intrusive sensation, which means that we don't want it, we hate it, but still get it, it's incredibly distressing and uncomfortable. Keep in mind that sadly the only way to get better in these types of situations is to sit and not care, which is extremely difficult almost impossible. Because then you start thinking, because I'm not caring, does that mean It represents who I am? No. Not caring is saying to yourself. I know that this doesn't represent my real desires. My therapist told me gronial responses are induced by anxiety, as you are already thinking "I might get a gronial response in this situation..." You've got this, I'm here if you need more help
It's important to understand that just because you feel something down there doesn't mean it's inherently sexual. Like I realized a lot of what I was feeling is basically anxiety. So you know how if you almost fell off something you might feel that weird idk how else to explain it other than "scared feet"? You feel this jumping sensation to a perceived threat, basically what's happening down there. You fear something sexual happening so your groin has anxious sensations when you're in a situation that you fear something sexual could happen (real or not). All it means, is your body is scared basically lol. The only way to reduce the fear is to stop reacting to it. You gotta avoid going into the questions of what does it mean? Why you? Are you actually a (insert here)? Just don't go down that road at all and let yourself experience fear. And basically as what you fear doesn't happen, over and over, the sensation and/or your reaction to it will reduce :)
The other comments on here are spot on, it's the ocd, I have pocd and I'm always searching for groinal response and it's horrible. But trust me you are not attracted to your family young or old. Hang in there
i have felt most of my fear and anxiety "down there" recently, and what i've had to realize is that's what it is. it's feeling fear down there. it's different than arousal and that's why it's so uncomfortable, because it's fear.
please help every time i get the groinal response i go back to whatever i was looking at, at look at it again then look away. i repeat this over and over until i can successfully do this without getting the groinal response. i’ve also noticed when i get the groinal response i experience a shortness of breath. it makes me feel like i enjoy when i really hate it. i just want to make this go away but i have no idea how to do that. i also procrastinate and can’t do what i want to do until the compulsion i mentioned above is just right.
it’s really strong this time, like it feels constant. i’m just in need of some advice right now, thanks ❤️
I’m constantly having groinal response to thoughts and people I don’t want to have them to. Does anybody else hold them in if that makes sense? I find that makes it worse and cause an arousal feeling and I absolutely hate it, don’t know what to do.
