Skin picking
How do you stop? 😭
How do you stop? 😭
Hi! I haven't ever had a skin picking problem. But hair pulling has been something I've struggled with. Mine was mostly conscious so I was mostly able to stop on my own. But my therapist at the time suggested putting my hair up so it was out of reach, I was less likely to do it unconsciously that way. In your case maybe you could put a bracelet or bandage over where you do it to help stop yourself. Something else that might help is finding a fidget toy or something to replace the skin picking. Best of luck.
I actually have a really good tip for this one as an AVID skin picker. Get your nails done with acrylics and ask them the round the tip and put the gloss around it as well. Make sure none of the nails have pokey tips, this makes it extremely difficult to pick at your skin. It’s hell for the first little while but that’s how I trained myself out of it for the majority :))
Does anyone have suggestions on how to stop picking at their scalp?
I’m having some trouble believing that reducing skin picking is really achievable. It’s been part of my life for a long time. Is it really possible to get it under control?
Does anyone have any good tips on how to reduce the urge to pick your skin? I wasn’t aware that this was something often associated with OCD until my therapist told me about it. I regularly engage in skin picking especially on my face and it has made my acne even worse and lead to scarring. I don’t want to continue doing it but sometimes I just do it without even realizing I’m doing it.
