Heart palpitations

I’m having major health ocd right now. I’m on vacation and since the day we left I’ve been having heart palpitations. It’s getting to the point that I’m afraid my heart is gonna stop beating or something. Or that I’m like gonna go into cardiac arrest. I’ve had heart palpitations before but I feel like these are happening more often. I have had major anxiety leading up to this vacation anyways… but now the palpitations have made me absolutely miserable and I just want to go home and go to the ER (I go to the ER often). Anybody else get heart palpitations frequently? And I’m also like hyper aware of my heart beat in general Feels like it’s beating so hard.

Im so sorry your going through this! It is a SUPER common OCD struggle lots of people have had the same thoughts as you myself included. I suggest watching some you tube videos on this type of OCD (they really helped me) and just try and distract yourself as much a spossible from it, remind yourself that it's all just OCD :)

YES i do, ESPECIALLY when i travel. the change of environment and uncertainty of a new location really gets me anxious! with heart palpitations, most people get them but dont even realize it. but people like us do because we are constantly checking our bodies for signs of harm. so when it does happen, i always tell myself that everyone gets them and without other symptoms, it is completely common.

I’ve had many different intrusive thoughts over the years, but I can’t seem to shake this obsession with my heart. I continually think it’s going to just stop or that it can’t handle being elevated. I don’t even have family history of heart disease or heart attack or anything of the sort. I keep myself healthy between exercise and diet. I’ve reassured myself a million ways from Sunday. I saw a cardiologist once, years ago, who reassured me that my heart palpitations were nothing to be afraid of. I try to look at every workout as an exposure, pushing myself to trust my heart and ignore the thoughts. But sometimes I just want to relax and enjoy dinner with my boyfriend or being out with my friends without ruminating over what would happen if I had a heart attack in the restaurant, the bar, where’s the nearest hospital, can I trust the people I’m with to know what to do, etc. It’s exhausting.

Health OCD

How do you guys deal with health OCD? It’s been eating away at me lately and I’ve just been nervous about something bad happening to me, even after visiting the ER a couple of times about chest pressure/feeling like I’m going to have shortness of breath. And they always seem to find nothing wrong. What do you guys think ?

Health Anxiety/OCD

I’ve been struggling with OCD since middle school. Over the years I’ve had many different obsessions such as POCD, Harm OCD, and now Health Concern OCD. For the last 6 months my newest obsession has been thinking that I am having a heart attack. I constantly body check, google symptoms, ask others for reassurance. I live at my university which is a little bit far from home. This causes me to have to call my mom in the middle of the night every time I have a panic attack over this. My roommates a nursing major so she always offers to take my blood pressure which helps, but still I don’t enjoy living like this. I always feel bad bothering others, and constantly feel like a nuisance. If anyone else with these worries and obsessions can let me know new ways to cope with it that would be amazing:) I just started my switch from lexapro to prozac for my OCD and I’m hopefully starting ERP/CBT soon but any tips on how to help this would be amazing.
