Has anyone who has successfully treated their ocd with meds, did it spike your symptoms first before it helped. Encouraging words only! Please don’t tell me how meds didn’t work for you, I’m looking for some encouragement to help me stay strong on the meds i recently started.
I started on meds 7 years ago in a partial hospitalization program. It took a little while to work, but I could literally pinpoint the moment it started working cause my sticky thoughts weren’t as sticky. Like putting some water on a slip-n-slide vs it being dry. I could let things go easier and it was incredible. I don’t know if most people can pinpoint the exact moment, but I can
@glücklich ALSO I was able to get off my meds a couple years ago!! It is possible!!!
@glücklich I don’t want to get off of them I just started them because I ended up having a nervous breakdown after resisting them too long. I was looking for encouraging words from people who say it really helped them. I need hope
@glücklich So meds really helped you? Did you feel some flares in your ocd before it really kicked in?
@TexasOCD41 It helped me like night and day. I got on them after a breakdown myself and three hospitalizations. It helped me to get my life back, really. I don’t remember clearly but I think I had a slight flare before it fully kicked in
@TexasOCD41 I was saying I was able to get off them because some people worry they will never be able to. Some people don’t, just trying to give hope that it’s possible. Meds really helped me so so much. Can’t put it into words how much.
@glücklich I gottcha. Yea I have been off and off my whole life. I did the whole “ hmmm wonder if I can do life all natural “ about a year ago and made it a year and 4 months then ocd started creeping back. I had convinced myself meds were now all the sudden dangerous and poison ( ironic i know) so i resisted meds for months and tried therapy but I wasn’t strong enough and then a bucket full of life trauma hit and i realized i needed meds so im on them but i increased my dose way too fast and ended up in the hospital so im on the lowest dose kinda flipping all over the place so yeah long story long just needed some encouragement to stick with it. On week like 3ish
@TexasOCD41 You’ll even out I promise. It can be hard to be on meds, but they’re an invaluable tool with ocd. If you’re on week three I really don’t think you’ve got long to go, from my experience. Took me about a month or so to even out, then it was all getting better from there. You’ve got this and you’ve got this community when you’re struggling

Yes it spiked my symptoms before it helped and every time they upped the dosage I would go through an ocd episode
@Beachgirl2024 About how long after upping a dose before you would level off? I’m upping my dose by half tomorrow and I’m scared but I’m only on 25mg right now and I know I’m going to need a little bit higher dose to really take out a dent in my issues. My ocd/anxiety/panic is very bad so I know I’ll need at least 50 for awhile. Typically starting dose for ocd anyway
This is kind of a weird question, but I recently increased my SSRI dosage and have experienced tremendous relief. It has quieted my intrusive thoughts so much and my compulsions are no longer as all-consuming. However, I don’t want to be on this high of a dosage forever and know that medication alone shouldn’t be my only fix. I’m seeing a new psychiatrist on Wednesday and am wondering if the recent decrease in frequency of my symptoms will be a bar to my getting ocd treatment? In other words, if in this present moment I’m doing better, but up until a few days ago my compulsions were taking up pretty much every moment of my waking day, will I still be classified as having ocd? I start getting worried when I feel better that I don’t actually have ocd and just use it as a defense mechanism to avoid consequences of my actions/I’m secretly a terrible person
Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!
I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
