does anyone knownif there is any truth behind the statement that strep throat can cause an onset of mental health issues such as ocd?? I used to have strep throat a lot as a child and early teen, but now I don't get sick very often. I've seen some tik toks talking about how people can develop ocd after experiencing certain infections, commonly strep throat. has anyone else heard of this or know why it happens?
Personally I feel everything to a large degree is connected. Here is a personal example I am dealing with , just leaving out a couple specifics for privacy. As a teenager I had a sickness , fairly common one but it did last several weeks to clear up at that time . With that said many , many years later much later in my life another sickness turned up for me landing me in the hospital. The sickness as a young person to a certain extent remained dormant in my body to come back later in life with a lack of better word a “ cousin “ sickness to the original sickness. Nothing truly ever goes away.
Omg. I have had strep probably 15-20 times in my life because of how large my tonsils are. I actually just had it a week ago and it caused me to severely break out in acne and I had a relapse after 2 really great weeks of recovery. I had no idea this information was out there!
I've also had strep a lot as a child and that's usually when OCD starts anyway. My question is how can we get rid of it 😞
I have heard of this and also used to get strep throat a lot as a child! I had to get my tonsils removed because of it. Im really interested to know if its the bacteria from the strep that could lead to OCD.
@Ermagh2024 Or maybe the strep is a result of our body being under so much stress and the OCD was just bound to happen
@Ermagh2024 @Ermagh2024 apparently getting strep throat as a child can lead to the development of PANS or PANDAS which is an autoimmune disorder that alters the way your brain functions via pathogens and antibodies entering your blood brain barrier. It's so interesting. me and my sister used to have strep so often, my sister had her tonsils removed as a child, I never did and I was already a young teen. I find it so interesting and I wonder why it isn't standard to look for this autoimmune disorder in people who have a history with strep throat. it could prevent so many issues for people down the road and help them damage their ocd that is caused by this disorder developed from strep throat. I'm sure there is more about it that I don't know, I've only done minimal research on it.

Does anyone on here happen to have hyper specific health obsessions? Specifically on rare, incurable diseases. I have one in particular but I literally hate even typing the word out! I’m so sick of my brain being like this!! I was doing great for months and all the sudden it’s back after seeing one tiktok comment that mentioned it.
I’m under a lot of stress right now between getting sick , getting my period , moving to a new apartment , and going on vacation next week. I feel like it’s made me distant and my partner focused OCD has gotten so much worse along with ROCD and SOOCD. I feel like I’ve been so hypercritical of my boyfriend and feeling nothing towards him and that stresses me out because last week when I was clear and my OCD had calmed down I felt so lovey dovey towards him. Now I just feel like a menace so I’m wondering if this happens to anyone else?
hello everyone! I wanted to share my story and see if anyone has any information that could help or would want to chat about PANDAS. I first got strep in February of this year, then again in March twice, and another time in April. Along with that I had scarlet fever, mono, and covid, all within the time frame as well. My ENT just ran a lab culture and found I’ve been carrying strep even after I was healthy. I recently started experiencing panic attacks and extreme anxiety which felt as though it came out of no where. So I’ve been doing CBT therapy and recently saw a psychiatrist who linked a lot of my symptoms to PANDAS - obsessive thoughts, trouble sleeping, etc. Does anyone else deal with PANDAS? Is there anything I should do to be medically safe? A lot or my anxiety and obsessive thoughts surround my health so this would bring me a lot of peace. Is there anything I can practice daily at home to see improvements? Please reach out!!
