Concern over asteroid Apophis potentially hitting Earth causing severe anxiety.

Spiralling and terrified

Something came up on my fyp on tiktok. The possibility of asteroid Apophis hitting the earth in 2029 and 2036. NASA assured it wouldn’t hit instead coming between the moon and earth. The comments are all fear mongering. They say you can’t trust NASA and they’d have a reason to lie to the common folk. If it was about anything else i’d wave it away because I don’t give sceptics the time of day but this is bothering me severely. I’ve been staring at a wall for the past hour absolutely terrified and trying my best not to reassure myself. This is horrible for me, because images of my own death and that of the world keep relentlessly attacking my psyche. I wish i could just wave this off but it’s sticking to me terribly.

I do this! I try my best to go “maybe,maybe not. But what is happening right now?” Then I try to ground myself in my body. If things can go wrong, they can go right! We can’t control if it happens or not, but we can enjoy every day we have! So I try to just focus on what I love and enjoy them. It’s the uncertainty of life that makes it worth living.

I try to make my own personal peace each day with life and death. That way death whenever it comes sooner or later has less of a negative impact, after all none of us are getting out alive in the end, LOL ! I word things like I do to try to make the most of life and also to make peace with and make amends with those people that I am not on good terms with while there is still time , one really never knows whether it is only one more day or 75 more years of life.

So i’m new, i’ve had OCD my whole life, but i’m experiencing a new subset that i’ve only really encountered a few times before. I’ve become very fixated on the world ending, even though it won’t happen for another 5 billion years or so. My fear of dying is definitely part of that, even though I will obviously be dead by that point. My main problem is thinking that at some point, the sun will explode and literally destroy everything that i have known. Every atom in my body will be detached from one another and relocated. My world will not exist in the mind of anyone, because there will be no one. It will be quiet. And not only those thoughts, but others regarding how small we are. The universe is apparently infinite and every effort i make to understand it triggers me until i have a complete meltdown. My life does not matter in reference to anything outside of our world. Im having a lot of trouble with pushing these intrusive thoughts away. My stomach drops whenever they come and makes me physically sick and extremely depressed and anxious. I’m in treatment and on medication but I have yet to discuss them with my therapist and psychiatrist because of time issues, though I do have an appointment. Has anyone experienced this too? How can I deal with intrusive thoughts?

Just wondering if anyone else has fears about the world ending, or dooms day type stuff that would in all honesty probably never happen; like asteroids, alien invasion, nuclear war, government take over, science fiction stuff. These are constant intrusive thoughts of mine after I heard about conspiracy theories about aliens and other science fiction stuff earlier this year.

World Event Anxiety

Recent world events have me stressing so much about the state of the world and I’m panicked that the world is gonna end and I won’t be able to live the life I want and the thought of other people suffering is incredibly distressing. It’s stupid I know. But I can’t rly enjoy anything. The second I enjoy myself a thought pops in like “hey you can’t be happy right now, remember this?” And it’s super stressful. I know I have no control so it’s pointless to stress about but I felt this way during Covid too. I hope nothing escalates to the point of like, apocalyptic catastrophe but my brain won’t let the thought go. It’s so silly I know.
