Seeking advice on Prozac dosage, timing, and side effects from users.

Prozac fluoxetine just started today need advice

For anyone taking this ssri what is your dosage, when do u normally take it (concern about weight gain, flat emotion, sexual side effect as I’m in a relationship). Any advice would help everyone here with ocd would like to know doses and what time of day you take and if you have experience improvements or side effects. I just started today on 10mg but would want to increase and stay at 20mg if it works out. Today been feeling sad but I think that’s more bc of something that happen (found someonelied about something from past) so I think it’s more that than side effect other than that nothing I ended taking at 3 PM. Since my bf works 3pm- 1 am so maybe I experience any side effects during this time and not before or after. Again not sure how this works thank you

Hey! I take Prozac. I don’t want to give you anxiety but just an honest experience. I took 10mg for quite a while, got worse before I got better, but ended up feeling a lot better. Then upped to 20 and I’m in the “worse” period right now. I assume it will have the same process again. It usually lasts about a week. Besides the emotional part, only side effect was headaches.

@camkkkkkk Thank you for sharing that way I know what to expect I heard when you start or transition to a new dose it does get worse before it gets better so I came into this thinking I need to go with patience. Did your doctor adjust your dose before, during or after period meaning higher dose around that week as for me that week and 2 days after period is the most difficult as far as ocd

@Anonymous I made sure that he waited until my period was a few days in before I upped my dose. Maybe the double wouldn’t be so bad, but I’d rather spread out the difficulties lol. Mine is also bad a week before - 2 days in.

I found that researching and reading other people’s experiences did me no good. EVERYONE reacts differently. I found it to be a compulsion to look for possible side effects and then I would convince myself I had them. Stay away from public forums - they mostly speak about negative experiences.

I’ve been on Prozac for quite a few years now. At least 5 I think! I’m on 80mg a day and I take it at night because Prozac can cause drowsiness. Lamitcal was mostly causing the drowsiness though and now I’m off of that. I noticed that it hasn’t affected my sex drive and it has stayed pretty normal. However, weight gain is a side affect that I had. I noticed that I didn’t put on weight right away but I find it hard to lose fat. Not sure if that’s just my genetics, the drug, or my depression but I’ve gained 30 in the past few years. Overall, Prozac saved me and has kept me stable along with a combination of other meds.

@g8250h I’m glad it has helped you :) may I ask if the other combination of meds are also for the ocd? Or is the Prozac enough for the ocd. Thank you for sharing

I just used to in the past try anti depressant and quit bc I didn’t feel good right away so I’m kind of researching to know what to expect and know to be patient with the medication

Hi Guys. I’ve been prescribed 10 mg of Prozac to help managed my OCD. I’ve been particularly struggling the past 10 months more than what I used to be able to manage on my own. I’m aware of the side effects but I’m terrified since I have big deadlines in school and I also work long shifts at my job. If I get fatigue, dizziness, nausea etc. I’m worried that my performance at school and work just tanks. I don’t have the ability to take time off from school or work so it’s really scary. At the same time, I know it could also help me. I’m considering waiting 4-5 weeks for the busy period to end but there will always something new that can come up. For those who had a bad experience with Prozac what would you do? For those who had a great experience, please also share. Thanks.

Hello, anyone have experience with Prozac? I’m on 20 right now, was started on 10 initially, very uncomfortable and anxious. I know I’ll need to up it but also need to give it some time, only been on it a few weeks. Anyone find that it really helped them and at what dose seemed to be best. My ocd is intrusive/ distressing thoughts. Thank you

Starting new medication

Starting Prozac Tommorow morning, and I’m terrified that I’m going to get bad side effects, I’ve seen some really scary articles about them, and it’s causing me a good amount of worry, anyone on Prozac or know anything about it? I’m really hoping it works in helping my ocd, I’ve been on Zoloft before and I don’t really remember and side effects but I do remember getting nausea so I switched to Prozac after a years break and ocd coming back harder.
