Can PTSD play a role in OCD. Because my mind keeps going back to when my thoughts were the worst. And showing me like falling apart or something. Like I keep seeing the same moment in my head when it was really freaking out of control. So I'm wondering if maybe PTSD is playing a role in my intrusive thoughts.
OCD is like a DJ, it loves to replay things (that distress you) over and over again š¶
I hate this though it makes me feel like I'm hurting God or being a bad person of faith
Also can OCD convince you, u feel a certain emotion and then u feel it. Like if ocd says I feel indifferent, I start feeling it. If ocd says I feel angry I start feeling angry.
@Jesuslover28 Yes and this is exactly why OCD loves replaying it, it makes you do compulsions which it eats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you want to work on this, do think about the specific moment on purpose while not compulsing, i.e. not ruminating about hurting god or being a bad person.

@Anonymous One more question then I think I'm good. Can ocd convince u a intrusive thought is a desire when it's really not and how confused does ocd make u because I feel like I'm always confused on who I am and my relationship with God

@Jesuslover28 Do you by chance know how a breathing meditation or similar focused meditation works?
@Anonymous Yes I try to do it but I have ADHD so it's really hard for me to chill out once Im stressed
@Jesuslover28 - Oh perfect, so you already know how to do ERP for this. So I have some homework for you. Do a breathing meditation but instead of focusing on breathing, you focus on your stressful memory. Your mind will try to ruminate while focusing on it, this is your brains automatic compulsive response, that you're trying to unlearn. Whenever you find yourself ruminating, that's fine, just gently(!) bring your attention back to the stressful event. Don't beat yourself up for not being able to focus initially, especially if you have ADHD. Self compession is important in this process. You will fail often early on, it's no big deal. Do this for 10 minutes every day and see how it goes.

@Jesuslover28 Do you have a therapist? If so you can do it together with him/her first. If you feel like this is too hard to do, you can start with easier exercises and work your way up there progressively. We are in this for the long run, not for a quick fix. So everything that keeps you motivated is a good thing.
@Anonymous No I do not have a therapist Jesus is my therapist. But idk why I feel so indifferent towards God and my thoughts I'm a little freaking out but I guess thats a ocd thing
@Jesuslover28 I donāt think Jesus can be your OCD therapist. He is not proficient in treating OCD unfortunately.
YES!!!!! Trauma is so common in OCD sufferers. In fact, I went to a Christian counseling conference a year ago to show my book to others and there were hundreds of booths. I was blown away at how many were trauma related. Basically, many (maybe even most?) mental disorders are caused - at least in part - by trauma.
yes, they can overlap, I suffer from PTSD too (still pending diagnosis but my therapist suggests this is true) and these two things overlap
i just got diagnosed with ptsd on top of my ocd but my ocd is trying to convince me that i am lying to myself & my psychiatrist & that i am an āattention-seekerā. i feel so embarrassed by these thoughts that its eating me up. my ocd makes me feel so invalidated from what i went thru that led to me being diagnosed with ptsdā¦ does anyone else experience this?
i currently am getting over my period and have been having a horrible flashbacks from some real events. itās a amalgamation of all of the horrible things i did as a child/young teenager. all of it associated with p0rnography + sexual activities i did. i was exposed to sexual activity very young and it lead me down a dark path. iāve had OCD forever it seems. itās hard because i can see that iāve had OCD symptoms since childhood but i constantly doubt wether or not my actions where because of OCD or something i genuinely wanted/was attracted to. i canāt seem to differentiate the two and itās scaring me. iām worried i was genuinely into the kind of stuff and itās constantly flashing in my mind the last two days of things i compulsively did years ago. to be absolutely clear it has been years since iāve even thought about those taboo things or saw anything of that sort. iām talking 5 or 6 years give or take. it still feels like yesterday. in recent years iāve completely pulled away from p0rn and now find it and s3x a lot less appealing. but every so often i get these intense flashbacks on things i did or saw or thought and it puts everything on hold. everything im interested in gets but on the back burner in fear of my intrusive thoughts being thrown into the mix. currently experiencing that now. im mortified of ruining everything i love because of these stupid thoughts. does anyone have any advice or experience with this specifically and have any tips???
I feel like after years of living in survival mode from various back to back traumas, I donāt know how to turn off my brain. Itās always in some sort of overstimulated cycle of overthinking, rumination, self checking, and seeking reassurance. I know there will be more peace after treatment. But just hating like Iām stuck in always feeling like Iām waiting for the next shoe to drop when so many shit things have happened to me early in life. How am I suppose to be excited about whatās next?
