@Anon849 This made me cry. Thank you 😢 I don’t know if you’ll understand (as I don’t know your age) but as a 33 year old… its very difficult because a lot of things were “just out of my reach”. Explaining the best way I can - I was 7 when google was created. 14 when YouTube was created. Social media wasn’t a thing until I was in high school. And in the beginning there was nothing but funny videos or makeup tutorials. I was suffering with OCD long before google had anything you could look up about it…besides it being “someone who likes to clean”. For years I truly believed I was a sociopath and eventually did something to try and see if I was. I felt like I was losing my mind and would spend hours curled up in a ball on my floor or taking sleeping pills so I wouldn’t have to be awake with my brain nonstop going going going (Looking up OCD “testing”) Eventually about a decade later i ended up seeing a OCD specialist (who actually ran a OCD treatment center prior to getting a private practice) and he told me I had the worst case of OCD that he had ever seen…to give you an idea of the hell I was experiencing in the past with zero information I could find online 💔 It is upsetting to me on levels that I can’t even explain. And truthfully I feel that because I was a SINGLE generation away from it not happening. If I was Gen Z it wouldn’t have happened because that generation was blessed with access I did not have for a decade of intense suffering. I was even seeing a therapist at that time who diagnosed me with OCD but I didn’t believe them because they had little knowledge about it and had no knowledge about Meta OCD.

@Cat_attack So glad the video could provide you more insight about what you're experiencing. I'm 25 so I was born exactly in time to be adjusted to social media and what not. I still grew up watching the funny videos and make up tutorials on youtube, though. I wouldn't say that Gen Z have it any easier. OCD is still a specialized disorder, so though there's more OCD resources than when it started afflicting you, there are lots of other resources that tell you that you are exactly what you fear that you will see before you can get to the corner of the internet that talks about OCD. And obviously if you have OCD, you're likely going to view content that triggers your obsession and the algorithm will only start showing MORE of that content for you. Another thing that keeps people in the cycle of OCD these days is that there are so many resources online. It's so easy to come on here and read posts and comment all day about OCD instead of continuing your life as usual. Just to name a few: Contamination - Fear-mongering about outbreaks and those videos of people swabbing random everyday surfaces and seeing the bacteria growth on a petri dish that they cultured Relationship: Relationship influencers and just random relationship related quotes about how to know if you love your partner, if your partner loves you, if your partner is toxic, etc Sexual orientation- there are plenty of late bloomer hindsight videos, videos of 'how to know you're gay', online tests, and plenty of homosexual agenda videos. And even right now, lesbianism is being spotlighted in pop culture by Chappel Roan and other artists that are fashionably "coming out" now. That "knees deep in the passenger seat while eating you out" song snippet is on various random shorts and reels that aren't even about lesbian content. I am constantly being triggered. Harm: True crime is one of the most popular content ideas

@Anon849 Yes but there was actual insight on OCD for THERAPISTS to use. There was next to nothing when i was diagnosed with OCD. Half the things I went through I couldn’t even explain because they had zero information on it at all. So I would say that makes things easier for gen Z because I actually believed I was a sociopath. And though you say you could have went down a wrong path, there actually was a path for your therapist to follow. (For those seeking help) there wasn’t for mine. They gave me all the information they had (i still have it) and it was nothing. 😢

@Anon849 I get what you’re saying but for a Lot of people like myself- We know what triggers us and avoid it (theres a lot of belief that exposure therapy works. I don’t believe that it works for everyone. I practiced that for 10 years before i stopped because exposure to things would give me so much anxiety id collapse and have a seizure and the ambulance would need to be called) I just know myself, so so much. I’ve spent 15 years in therapy and am a deep thinker. And I know despite having OCD that I would never have reached the point of trying to end My life if i had a therapist who had knowledge of my disorder. I’m NOT saying Gen Z have it EASY. they don’t. But I know if I was Gen Z I personally would have had it easier. Because imagine if someone said to you I’m sorry you have type 1 diabetes. And the only thing they knew was take insulin and your sugar is always high. And online all you saw was “eat low carb” and “exercise often” then you end up dying because you ate a salad for lunch and go for a run. You have a severe hypoglycemic episode that you had no idea could happen because no one knew type 1’s experience LOW blood sugar as well. Thats all i mean. I don’t mean you personally aren’t going through hell. I’m sorry if it seemed i meant that.
