Has anyone switched therapist before? How did that conversation go? I really like my current therapist, but my psychiatrist got me into a OCD center at one of the top hospitals in the country. Now I have to tell my current therapist that I can no longer work with them. Looking for advice on how to handle this conversation.
I had a talk therapist who i could tell was not specialized in OCD and she provided me reassurance and allowed me to be compulsive and I recognized it was not a good fit. I simply told her I thought she was a wonderful therapist and I thanked her for all the help she had given me, and told her I have found a therapist that is OCD specialized that ti think is more appropriate for my current issues and told her if I ever wanted to do talk therapy again I would give her a call. She was very understand and wished me luck. They are professionals and understand sometimes you have to make changes in your plan for the best results.
@TexasOCD41 I know it’s the right thing to do, she is a great therapist but I can’t turn down this opportunity. There was a huge wait list to get into this program that focuses only on OCD and anxiety and all therapist have PhD’s. I just feel bad leaving her, I am not good at this lol
@Endlessly Pondering - I would just tell her exactly that. She will understand. You're not leaving her, she would want this for you. She has other patients lol she will survive.

I'd just explain what you said, thank them for the help on your journey and wish them the best in life. Maybe even say you'd use them again if needed or recommend them to others in need of therapy
I've switched therapists over my life a couple of times, and to be honest the therapist should be equipped to handle it, so please don't feel guilty for seeking more appropriate help. This might sound "crude", but the way one of my therapists said it to me was, imagine buying a pair of pants that don't fit, and you're worried about hurting the feelings of the store if you say you don't fit and you want some that do fit. No one would be offended. I would say "I got into one of the top hospitals for OCD treatment so I will be moving forward with that. I wanted to thank you for all of your help and support in my time of need".

I was referred to CAHMS and the referral went through fast because of the severity how much my OCD affects my life. With my GCSEs coming up I need to get some help. We were supposed to see a doctor but they were called out to an emergency. Instead I saw a practitioner. I was mostly open about my OCD in the first appointment but we then we had some issues where she told my mum somethings about my OCD which were not required or that she was unaware of. This made me feel uncomfortable. I have had x4 1hr30 sessions with her. So far I have talked about some of my obsessions and intrusive thoughts to which she said that I just need to think less about. I often do things in 4s or 16s so she recommended I do them in 4s. I asked her what the structure was to be and she said that she’d do 3/4 more mindfulness sessions and see if it had helped. I need more than that but don’t know how to tell her that. Part of my OCD (like for most sufferers) is to think overly about other people’s thoughts and feelings. How would this make her feel? Etc When I explain my obsessions she takes notes and when I ask her to give me some coping mechanisms/ strategies she seems lost. She writes notes and says that this is a lot for a brain to go through, that I must feel tired. It’s no fault of her own, just lack of expertise in the area. She has particular interest in mindfulness - not anxiety and related disorders. I feel like she maybe does not want to admit this and is just continuing. I went for help but I am not receiving it. I want to get better, feel better but that might be months before she realizes it’s not helping. I want to speak to somebody else but the only person I have seen at CAHMS is her and I feel uncomfortable expressing this with her. Sorry this is long but does anyone has any advise on how to deal with this situation? What to say, suggest. Like I said, it causes me great distress if I help myself at others’ expense.
So I have a regular talk therapist and I have a NOCD therapist. My regular talk therapist triggers me a lot. I’ve made a lot of progress with her in the past but I’ve realize that she triggers me and says things that I don’t like. Too philosophical for my OCD. I’m wondering if I should get rid of her or not. My NOCD therapist really understands a lot with me. Any advice from people who understand this?
i’ve been with the same therapist for about a year and half now and we’ve built such a close relationship and she knows everything about me. she said shes leaving NOCD in a few weeks and i don’t know what to do. i can either stop therapy or get a new therapist. neither of those options sound good to me. she knows everything and i don’t feel like talking to anyone new but i’m so upset that i can’t have her anymore. what do you guys recommend doing in this scenario. i’m so heartbroken and really don’t wanna talk to anyone else (especially cause i hate change!) pls help
