Is it just me or does anyone else think some of these celebrities or other successful people are overstating their struggle with ocd just to make a buck? E.I. Howie Mandel. Its like, you know you are very successful for someone whos had such crippling ocd your entire life lol. Maybe the criteria for ocd diagnosis is lower than i think.
I fully agree with you. I'm not sure if they're doing it to earn a buck or not but there are definitely different levels of OCD
Yeah definitely levels of severity. Maybe someone like howie mandel would say if he didnt have ocd, he'd be worth 10 times what hes worth today lol. Speaking of him, is he able to shake anyones hand yet? Can he open public doors yet? Like doors to public restrooms? Can he take a leak and not wash his hands? Cause i can do all those things and have no anxiety from it. Considering hes the spokesman for noocd, has erp completely changed his life? 😁😁😁 i havent heard any updates on his condition.
@Ifiknewthen Haha I guess you're not a Howie mandell fan then..... Can I ask what are the things that make up your ocd if you don't mind?
@Ifiknewthen Going by your bio, you don't suffer from Health Concern or Contamination OCD, so for you to not have an issue with shaking someone else's hand, open public doors, or use the bathroom without washing your hands after is not an accomplishment, as it would be, if you suffered from this subtypes.
@Joe87 No im fine with mandel. Walk like a man was a funny flick when i was a kid. He had some good standup in the 80s and 90s. Im just wondering if as the spokesperson for noocd commercials, hows his progress going? Cause if hes going through erp properly through the years, he should be able to shake peoples hands by now. Should be able to open doors, etc etc. He claims that erp works. So i was looking for an update on his case. But anyway, i have had perfectionism my entire life. Since i was a kid. Had to read lines in a book over and over again. Write my name over and over again. I could go on and on about stuff. Had to wash my dirt bike if it got a little muddy. Had to have all my homework done as soon as i got home. Went nuts if i couldnt get it done. Got very depressed if i got an injury in sports and couldnt perfor my best in sports. Im a fraction of the person i could have been had this been diagnosed and treated many years ago. Im better now and understand ocd much better today but great damage has been done. I bring up the celebrity cases because it seems like they may want to capitalize on a label when maybe they dont fit that label. Maybe the diagostic threshold is low for ocd. I probably had a severe case.
@Zoë_84 Yeah i was bringing up mandel because hes the spokesman for ocd and he says he has germ ocd. So i was wondering, has he gone through intense erp? Because they say that many people with germ ocd have been cured through intense erp if they commit themselves to it. I dont mean doing extreme stuff like wiping your hands all over a public urinal and then wiping your face lol. I just mean shaking hands and grabbing public doorhandles, etc.
I always thought that to get a clinical diagnosis of OCD that your compulsions or rituals had to be taking up at least an hour of your day when you combine them all. Mine was so bad and still is some days that I am unable to work and basically spend whole days ruminating, searching for answers and doing lots of physical compusions between going to toilet and getting food as they are the only things that I do. It has nothing to do with being lazy and is literally down to the fact that I have got in such a dark place mentally that it's extremely hard to just snap out of it and stay snapped out of it. That is what I would calp severe OCD
I dont think many of these celebrities have ocd. I think they know how to turn a buck lol.

Does anyone struggle with feeling like their ocd issues are not ocd enough compared to other peoples ocd? Is this an ocd thought itself lol
I never heard about people with OCD who have messy living conditions. Maybe this is why it took so long to accept my diagnosis. Although I really dont like how OCD is percieved at by the majority of people, I feel like Im weird or something because I dont fit into that stereotype. I understand that a lot of people with OCD have this issue, but why do I feel so different? If anybody else has/had this belief, what helps with feeling more comfortable? Everytime my mom points out my room, and how its messy- Its like I feel so lazy and useless. So then I often plan out everything I was going to do, step by step, always having a reasoning behind everything, because logic always comforts me. When I start tidying up my room, I go full out (Sheets, Laundry, Clorox, Candles, Vaccuming, Then I start going through the guinea pigs cage to rearranging all of their stuff) Yet always somewhere after doing a few things, I start feeling disgusting and almost shameful of myself. 99% of the time I end up laying on my floor sobbing, noting every little thing about my room. How my furiniture doesnt match, how i would rather have solid floor like hardwood or vinyl instead of the carpet, usually things i cant change… and then barely anything gets done in my room. I start to have a meltdown and often dont take care of myself even more afterwards. A piece of me feels like my thoughts are just me being a spoiled brat and wanting everything i dont have- meanwhile others dont even have a roof over their head. The other piece of me is just tired, just emotionally exaughsted. Please comment any thoughts or recomendations to maybe improve motovation and attitude towards doing long tasks.
When I hear the others might think that they could also have ocd when I tell them I could have it or they want to say they have it after I’ve got diagnosed with, without knowing how I feel it is like why do I always have to have something and then they say they also might have it are they supporting, joking or what?
