I'm seeing an ocd specialist, if you can switch to one it would be helpful but it is possible you could do this on your own. Erp = exposure and response prevention, the point is to expose yourself to the fearful without compulsions. By doing the compulsions you're reinforcing the ocd sorry to say, and that is going to make you feel worse. By limiting compulsions your brain starts to realize you don't need to do compulsions because the things you fear are unlikely and not as scary. If it seems too hard to not do compulsions you might need an easier exposure scenario.

Yeah I'm desperately seeking out an OCD specialist in my city. I am on a waitlist to see one in November so I have to try to buckle down with these thoughts until then ?? the problem that I have is actually recognizing my compulsions. There's so many mental compulsions that I do that I don't even know if it's even a compulsion or not, that's the tricky part. But thank you for the insight

@NocturnalGyal That's good. :) I would suggest hold off on erp then, if you want to do some work on your own look into mindfulness meditations and exercises. That helped me to realize my mental compulsions.

What do you mean by first day of recovery? Erp takes a while to see any effects.

Really? Have you done ERP successfully?

@NocturnalGyal Currently working with a therapist. Erp for one of my obsessions can take 2 to 3 weeks of daily erp. And to be honest the first 2 months of therapy I wasn't doing erp effectively. So I am wo dering what you mean by first day of recovery? Have you only done 1 erp session?

@llamaduck I actually don't see an OCD specialist :/ I've been attempting to do ERP by myself... And I feel likes it's made me worse

@NocturnalGyal How are you doing the erp? How long have you been doing it? I would guess if you're feeling worse it's probably because you are still doing some compulsions that you're not aware of (maybe mental compulsions), you really need to focus on the thing you're exposing to and feel the anxiety.

@llamaduck I've been doing it on and off for like 3 days now.. Like I know I haven't been consistent with the ERP at all. And I feel compelled to do the compulsions because if I don't, then I assume what I'm feeling/thinking is true ? are you seeing an OCD specialist? Or is it just a regular therapist?
