If you’d asked me that a year ago I would have probably quoted the Bible verse describing the devil as “a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” That was OCD to me. But after months of ERP therapy I would now say it’s more like an unwelcome house cat with a bad attitude.

My OCD is a King Cobra. Not only is it venomous, and affects my other functions, it wraps itself around me and squeezes me. Until all that’s left is a husk of a human. Instead of feasting on that husk, it feasts on my fears, my anxieties, my what ifs. And once i’m drained of them like blood, it finds something else to take over. Something else to worry about.

My OCD feels like an American badger (this description feels like a description of myself when I’m stuck in an OCD loop) 🦡 American badger - badgers are aggressive and have few natural enemies. They are known for being determined when threatened, and their powerful build and sharp claws may contribute to their reputation for ferocity.

One of those little grackle birds in the parking lot. Always there, sometimes just chilling at the top of my head and sometimes tapping his little beak on the glass and chittering constantly, never alone and being egged on by other little grackles.
