Medication

About a month ago, well technically TWO months ago, I went cold turkey off of my lexepro. Before this, I dealt with a lot of healthy anxiety, constantly thinking I was going to die. But anyways, I have been in a 9 month relationship. Healthiest and most fulfilling relationship I’ve been in. We always push eachother to do better. Something I’ve never had from a partner before. About a month and a half in going cold turkey off of my lexepro, one night, I felt like I was suddenly having doubts about the relationship. Doubts that didn’t even have any logic behind them. I’m glad I didn’t just give into my compulsions about just leaving. But now that I’m learning more about ROCD, I was just curious if going off medications like that can cause a flare up. I’ve been on lexepro for about two years

I have gone cold turkey off meda and it isn't good ugh. I actually take the generic form of that

Yes, coming off medication that keeps OCD in check will allow it to flare back up at any given moment. a LOT of people discontinue medication because they think they don't need it anymore since they are feeling better( not realizing they are feeling better because the medication is working). I have fallen into this trap more times than i care to admit. I'm back on meds now and if i EVER consider stopping them cuz life is going good, i remind myself WHY life is going good is becuase I'm medicated and my anxiety and OCD are in check because of it.

@TexasOCD41 I appreciate the advice. I’ve been on anti anxiety medications since the FIRST grade. I just wanted to feel normal without being medicated. I felt great for a month and a half. But it was like an overnight thing. Everything fell apart. My anxiety was back with a vengeance

@Ladybruh I totally understand. I started meds in middle school. I was on them from 13-32 with a few short gaps. Every SINGLE time I quit, I’d be fine for a few months, maybe a year at most then I’d crash and need to go back on. Last spring i crashed the hardest iv ever crashed and I fought so hard to stay off meds but after 4 months I was about to become suicidal so i just decided I’m one of those people who just needs medication and I’m fine with it. I don’t care if I take it the rest of my life. It saves me and it IS my normal. I honestly don’t feel anything different other than a tad dull on some emotions but not enough to bother me and it’s worth it to not have to feel everything like a blade scraping against a raw nerve lol.

@TexasOCD41 Exactly. Medication has always been a insecurity for me. My boyfriend is understanding, but I just feel like when I take medication, I’m a burden (if that makes sense). He’s supportive either way. But this is my first time experiencing an Rocd flare. And it can be very scary at times. Like it’s never gonna end

@Ladybruh I feel like a burden without medication. If diabetics get insulin and asthmatics get inhalers and heart patients get bp meds, what’s the stigma for brain chemistry imbalance getting its remedy? Don’t let the bs stigma of “ meds bad, suffer good” keep you from taking meds that allow you to be the best version of yourself. Iv had ROCD, it SUCKS but it will go away with the correct treatment ( ERP/therapy/ meds) if meds work and you know which one works for you you’re ahead of the curve, just get back on it and ride out the anxiety until it starts working again. You’re gonna be alright. It’s temporary i promise

I really have mi,ed feelings sbout medication. Is it possible to bd on medication for a period of gime or is it like if hou start medicatiin fir ocd you will only feel good if you syay on that medicine for life?

@Anonymous I couldn’t say. I’m new to ocd. I’ve asked around if ocd is treatable without medications. And all I’ve really gotten was it depends on the severity

@Anonymous Depends on the person. Some can use it short term, some need it for longer periods and some ( like myself) need it probably for life. I’m just thankful that option exists so I can be the best version of myself and enjoy life to the fullest without being controlled By ocd

Isn't there a,way if I did,try medicibe that I could sort of wean off the medicine slowly instead of all at once...or dies thatdepend on the medicine that is prescribed?

yes you can always taper off, thats the typical procedure for medications. Iv tapered off many times in the past.

Rocd ??

Please help. Been with my boyfriend for 15 months. 6 months into our official relationship I found out he kissed someone 1 week before he asked out officially. He told me he loved me at that time and I felt we were exclusive. He apparently did not . He also agreed he would not watch porn and lied once about it. I also have been spinning about the types of women he thinks are attractive and I find disgusting so I sent him pictures for months hoping he would say it looks gross but he didn’t and it killed me. Throughout the relationship I have been spinning about these issues really hard and it damaged my trust for him but I know he’s an amazing great guy I just feel very uneasy. It has been 1 year of me spinning about these issues and other little ones constantly texting him everyday and my friends about them to try to figure things out but I am unhappy . 4 months ago I had a severe breakdown and since I am severely depressed and anxious every day all day with thoughts of is this a wrong relationship , comparing him to other men, wondering if I would be happier with someone else. I have been seeing a therapist seeing a therapist one thinks I have rocd and a psychologist doesn’t . Nothing is helping me and I’m on Zoloft . I broke up with him a month ago and I’m still spinning in circles if I made the right decision or if I left over rocd and overblowing the issues that bothered me . ROCD

for a few days now I’ve been super anxious about my relationship. I’ve been anxious about it before but lately it’s been worse than normal. I’m in a very healthy and loving relationship, I love my boyfriend so much and he treats me so so well. The only thing is that I’ve been having scary thoughts that what if I’m lying to him and don’t actually love him? What if I don’t find him attractive? And like what if the only way to stop being anxious is to break up with him? I don’t want to leave him and I am so scared. I feel like I’m lying to him by not telling him what’s going on because he might think I’m actually going to leave him, which I’m really not going to. I have had anxiety since before we started dating and incestual and sexual ocd, then I got into a point where I started having religious ocd, and now I have ROCD on top of that I think. I’ve never been diagnosed but I’m going to therapy and figuring things out but I’m so scared. Idk what to do and I feel like if I talk to anyone they’re going to say I have to leave him.

Zoloft question

Hello last year I had gone thru a very rough time In my life where I needed to be put on Zoloft 50mg around march 2024. I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and OCD. Ive been suffering from OCD since I was like 11 and depression since I was 19, but I never sought help until last year Im 27 because I knew I needed it to help me get thru life. I was on 3 months on Zoloft and I went to a trip to Miami which honestly helped me so much, I honestly attribute that trip to Miami in healing me more than the Zoloft it self. I met my current girlfriend there. After coming back I felt like a new person. I still kept taking the Zoloft 50mg until late April (2025) this year when I decided to tapper down to 25mg by my self without a doc recommendation, I didn’t feel anything during the month of may this year until like may 30th when I woke up in a panic and I felt like I was back at square 1 before I started Zoloft. Mind you ive been thru some life changes, I recently graduated RN school and my gf moved in with me. Ever since the end of may I’ve been very anxious, my OCD is on high gear and my depression too. I went back up to 50mg I’m seeing a new doc, my questions is has anyone gone thru a similar situation? If so what helped you and how long did it take you to stabilize ?
