The hidden OCD symptoms that almost ruined Nicole Rafiee’s relationship
Nicole Rafiee was in a safe, loving relationship—but as badly as she wanted to enjoy it, she couldn’t. Her mind was too full of worries. Was he “the one”? Was she in love enough? Should she end things because she wasn’t sure? These questions kept her up at night. She analyzed every thought, feeling, and interaction for hours, but the more she searched for answers, the more uncertain and anxious she became. Every time someone told her “when you know, you know,” it sent her deeper into a spiral. She didn’t know, and that made her feel like a horrible person. It wasn’t until she learned about Relationship OCD (ROCD) that it clicked: This was far more than “just overthinking.” ROCD can turn any flicker of a doubt into suffocating, all-consuming distress that makes you second-guess everything. Through exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, Nicole gained the skills to finally trust her own feelings. Now she’s opening up about her experience to help others feel less alone, recognize these patterns in their own relationships, and get the help she wishes she’d gotten years earlier.
