I’ve had QUITE the experience with Zoloft. I started on it almost 3 years ago. For a while I was at a low dose (75mg) because I was at the time only diagnosed with anxiety. I’m told now that I was extremely under medicated because I’ve had OCD this whole time and never knew (looking back, it makes sense that it was always there, it just wasn’t bad till recently hence the recent diagnosis). Apparently for treating OCD you need much higher levels of meds. So anyway out of nowhere my anxiety started getting horrible though I’d been taking Zoloft for well over 2 years and had almost no trouble with my anxiety. It made my anxiety unbearable, leading me to have to leave my college out of state on a medical leave of absence. It’s been a guessing game since, but I’m now on Effexor (which is an SNRI, versus Zoloft which is an SSRI- I don’t know the details but the body reacts differently to each- they tried Lexapro first and I freaked out even more so they decided my body probably just doesn’t do well with SSRI’s). However the Zoloft did keep my anxiety and depression (and maybe my OCD? Not sure because I wasn’t diagnosed until recently) at bat for over 2 years.

Life-changing for me. It has taken some going up to get to the correct dose, but it genuinely improved my quality of life times a million. I’ve been on it for around seven years now, and although I’ve still had a lot of difficult times, breaking the compulsions is so much easier than it was before the meds. I’m fairly certain that I owe my life in part to it, since it helped treat my depression and suicidal ideation as well as my OCD. That said, my best friend was on it for a while and actually felt worse while she was on it, so I can’t promise it’ll work for you. Everyone’s brain chemistry is different.

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.

i am starting NOCD therapy on monday and was just curious on others’ experiences! what happens in your sessions, generally speaking? how do you feel during and after? i’m excited but also nervous to start. i’ve been in talk therapy for years with minimal improvement with my ocd, so im hopeful to start feeling better.

I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
