there’s a lot of gofundme’s and stuff that have people with cancer or someone hurt or stuff that pop up on my fyp’s and it can get really triggering because i feel the need to excessively pray for them everytime i see them. does anyone else get this way?
I do! Mine was a bit different, though. I would get triggered by anything violent or related to harm, and my compulsion was to avoid looking at that content—I’d delete my apps, report the content, etc. But that only worked for so long. The best thing I did for my OCD was to stop avoiding and actually watch the content without skipping.
@ThatOCDGuy In ERP therapy, I learned that living by my values means recognizing that I am someone who doesn’t want to hurt others, no matter what my brain says. When I was struggling with harm OCD, I often felt like a monster, but I had to accept that OCD distorts reality and tries to make us doubt ourselves. The more I engaged in compulsions to prove I wasn’t a bad person, the stronger OCD became. Instead, I had to sit with the discomfort and choose to act according to my values and refusing to let OCD dictate my actions. You don’t need to prove to yourself that you’re not a bad person; you already know who you are, and OCD doesn’t get to define that.
Does anyone experience ocd really bad with posts they see online? I just saw a post just now about someone who said they’ve come to terms with dying in their early twenties, and it popped up on my Instagram for you page and i panicked. I’m 20 myself and posts like this genuinely scare me because I always think “It’s a sign or there is a reason it’s popping up on my page.” Has anyone dealt with this before or had an instance like this? Especially with those posts that say if you don’t share or like it something bad will happen, it genuinely freaks me out and I love instagram.
Does anyone else read other peoples post and think it’s for them or about them and their situation and start to think that’s what they are going through themselves ? Or like I’m blaming ocd but it’s my brain actually telling that’s how I actually feel?
Im a hypochondriac and recently I’ve been seeing posts about sicknesses and I got worried why all of a sudden they’re popping up on my page. I always think it’s a sign and it scares me especially if i accidentally skip over the videos anyone else?
