I have a question for all my fellow ocd people

@cindyjo That’s part of the reason I want to write this. So God can use it to help me and others to knowing they are loved. And that he doesn’t demand perfection in prayer. I get distracted a lot and have a hard time being present in prayer and church. but I know he is still using it. Also ocd can be the “desert” sometimes and we are having to trust as we go through it. God still uses our prayers even if we aren’t present because of ocd. Well…in my heart I know but my mind lets ocd plays with the theme of wanting to punish me also.

Right now, because it's Ash Wednesday, I've been struggling with feeling like I'm half assing it even though I'm fasting. Like I'm not giving up enough, and worrying that my portions are too big.

@littlecreek24 Hey, I completely understand you. I struggle with that has a Catholic as well. OCD plays with our emotions and makes it hard. I find myself almost getting upset at other Catholic because they seem further ahead than me in faith because it’s easier for them it seems. But even the readings today are about doing everything not for others. “Pray where no one can see”. So I find comfort in that because with ocd…..our cross is hidden from others for the most point. And we also don’t go to mass for others. We have to go for Jesus and the Eucharist. Don’t let others deter you from that. Keep fighting the fight and carrying the cross of OCD my friend. I’ll definitely find a part to add in my book. The church is Gods house and we go for him. But I understand you 100%. I will be praying for you and please keep praying for me and no you aren’t alone. But we must not give up on our faith because of others

@littlecreek24 I think sometimes ocd can be a desert. And it feels like we are in a season of spiritual dryness more often than not. But sometimes reflecting and looking back for me has helped me see how he was still present in those moments.

@littlecreek24 Have you ever heard of desolation and consolation in spiritual warfare?

@Anonymous Yes I have, I've actually talked with my priest who also has OCD and GAD and he's given me a lot of good advice. For example, he told me to stick with the baseline 5 requirements and don't worry about being "good" at Catholicism because we are weak and need Jesus for everything. This has helped a lot but I still worry, especially since many other Catholics including saints would make it seem like it's not that easy.

@littlecreek24 That is awesome you were able to talk to a priest who has it. What was the 5 baseline requirement he gave?

@Anonymous 1. Go to mass on Sundays and on Holy Days 2. Confession at least once a year 3. Communion at least once a year on Easter 4. Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday 5. Give to the church with either money or volunteering.
