How I travel with OCD, without letting it control me
You’ve been dreaming about this vacation. The tickets are booked, the itinerary is set, and the last thing you want is for OCD to disrupt your travel plans. But as many people have found, trying to "ban" OCD from our travels can often backfire: The more we try to suppress our symptoms, the more persistent they tend to become. However, that doesn’t mean OCD has to dictate your itinerary. By acknowledging that symptoms might appear, but they don't have to steal your joy, you can still swim in that ocean, explore that city, and create meaningful memories during your travels—even if OCD tries to come along for the ride. This approach, called radical acceptance, has been transformative for Alegra Kastens, LMFT. Drawing from her personal experience, Alegra shares how she practices radical acceptance while traveling and how you can apply it to your next adventure.
