Patrick McGrath says that trying to get rid of your thoughts is the exact reason you keep getting them. Once you learn to be okay with the presence of the thoughts, they won’t bother you as much and they’ll go away quicker. Also, thought stopping isn’t possible- as much as we want it to be
I just don't know how to respond to them like saying maybe I do maybe I don't or am I just supposed to ignore it and not say anything back? I'm afraid things will be like this for the rest of my live.
@becka1221 Understandablec for sure :) It’s good to switch it up and use a variety of techniques. You can add humor and be sarcastic with the thought to make it less serious. I would say “wow Ocd you are so boring giving me this same thought on repeat. I’ve heard this thought a million times already, come up with something new.” 😄 You can agree with it affirmatively- you can say “Thanks Ocd I love this thought for me! It’s so great :) “ (of course it will feel icky but it helps to not feel as scary). Or you can just not give attention to the thoughts altogether. The important thing to remember is that we’re not trying to decrease the frequency of the thoughts- we just let them be there while trying not to act fearful of them. The more afraid you act- the more power Ocd gets. Once you notice the thought, you can use one of the non engagement statements but then you have to shift your attention elsewhere onto a values based activity. As you show less fear and you do ERP- these thoughts will quiet down over time on their own. I promise it gets better :) I’ve been there ❤️🩹

I'm trying to be ok! Got diagnosed recently this month and ever since it feels like my OCD has amplified with horrible horrible words and images
@becka1221 i hope so because i get taboo themes like this stucks in my brain all the time the ones about kids are the worst and i feel its such a sin to have these thoughts i avoid kids in public and when i see i freak out particuarlly baby noises creep me out i dont know how to forgot these things

@becka1221 well im not very good with dealing with it but on better days i watch tv i learn something new and i got a box of all the things i wanna forgot so they are away from me
It’s okay you’re gonna be okay even you get groinal responses don’t panic or try to analyse them just ignore them. I have a similar experience with hocd and instead of being afraid that I like kids I am afraid that I like men but honestly the more you ignore any thought and sensation without analysing the less impact they have on you and the less real they feel

You don’t ignore them you kinda just let them be there. As scary and annoying as it is you just have let it be there and move on with your day. I promise it gets better it’s not going to be easy but it takes practice. Also what helped me was just surrendering to my thoughts and not trying to figure them out or argue with them. Just accepting uncertainty and unconditional self acceptance. Easier said than done but it takes practice. Remember ocd comes for our fears and ocd lies to us
I need advice for intrusive thoughts. I used to feel like I could handle them. They weren’t nearly as bad as the things that related to my actual life. But now, I’m suffering. I haven’t had a sexual experience in over a year that didn’t involve constant intrusive thoughts. Most are somehow related to kids and I keep chasing off the thoughts but it’s so bad. I know you’re supposed to ignore them but I don’t know how I can just ignore that and continue what I’m doing. But they’re coming on stronger. I had one earlier I could not get rid of just as things finished so the thought came on strongly just before my orgasm hit and now I feel absolutely disgusting. I hated the thought and I know it’s not me and it was not enjoyable but it still feels like I was getting off to it. I feel sick. I’m so fucking tired of these thoughts. They’re in my every day life too and it’s all the time. I just want it to stop but ignoring it feels so wrong. What should I do?
I’m a csa survivor which made me develop hypersexuality while actually being a asexual individual. (Where I did CP and talked to groomers and sexted, ect ect) A few months ago I’ve started to heal, but the fact that I’ve seen so many private parts since I was idk, young? I imagine them everywhere, it’s really frustrating and sometimes I also get intrusive thoughts about other kids or my siblings. It’s deeply distributing but I also kind of think of it from a curious kind of aspect which I despise too. Honestly I have a hard time with any kid in underwear, my intrusive thoughts have been ALOT the last months and they’re really really overwhelming. I also easily go into overanalysing them or even trying to figure out more clearer the thoughts to “test myself”. I think, I hope. Idk it’s scary
Why are things so real the first time they’re in my mind and then when I think about it later it’s easier for me to be like wtf?? I was watching a movie earlier and the young girl had developed more in the chest area than the last movie and I felt the desire to check her out so I did. Then later I let myself imagine her having sex and I liked it. But now looking back I’m like ew. The boys in the movie have also developed as the movie went on and I couldn’t help but think that in their real life they’ve probably woken up to boners and s*men and stuff. And looking back it’s just ugh. Idk if it’s sexual relevance but I genuinely let myself indulge in these thoughts and groinal responses and I remember thinking to myself I don’t want to be attracted to little kids and how do I stop myself (everyone has attractive qualities so in younger boys I see man like qualities). Idk I need help. I wouldn’t type this out if I truly believe I was messed up but I’m still scared
