I was prescribed buspar for anxiety. I’m worried that the psychiatrist didn’t fully understand that the more triggering feelings of anxiety come from the feelings i get mentally. I just kind of wonder from a professional what Buspar does. Google scares me I don’t know what the facts are and I just need some facts.
Hey, I’m not a professional but I’ve been on bursar forever now and it’s helped both my OCD and anxiety in general a lot. My doctor explained it to me, that it helps balance the levels of serotonin and dopamine in your brain and that will help in the long run of helping you feel less anxious, that being said it needs time in your system to build for you to get the full benefits of it so it’s important that you do your best to be consistent and take your dose every day. My doctor also let me know that it’s shown to be just as effective as a benzodiazepine, but without the drowsiness which has been a huge plus for me because meds that make me drowsy freak me out really badly. My personal experience has been really good with it, I’ve been on multiple anti anxiety medications and benzos for anxiety and my OCD and this has honestly helped me the most out of them, when paired with my SSRI the amount of intrusive thoughts, feelings and obsessions I have day to day goes down to almost 0 some days
I started taking Buspar earlier this year for anxiety before being diagnosed with OCD. Previously I had successfully been on Lexapro for about a year, went off it, tried to go back on it, and had a terrible response/side effects. I then tried zoloft and continued to have side effects that made it difficult to maintain my daily routines and only took it for 3-4 months. As someone who is sensitive to SSRI's, my psych said Buspar was much gentler and many people did not experience side effects. As I upped my dosage, I did experience some minor side effects but for the most part, Buspar has helped decrease my anxiety and OCD symptoms. As someone who has really questioned meds and how some doctors push them, I've had a pretty positive experience with Buspar. My advice is to advocate to see a psychiatrist and work with them closely as you go on any of these meds/change dosage. Having a good psychiatrist to talk to versus just a GP, has helped give me a lot of insight and alleviated stress over any potential issues that may come up.
I was originally introduced to Buspar by my psychiatrist as an adjunct medication to counter the side effects of sertraline. BuSpar is an older drug that is FDA approved for generalized anxiety disorder, which I also have. Over time, I have been slowly reducing my dose of sertraline and increasing my dose of buspirone. It is considered a pretty clean drug without a lot of side effects like the SSRI’s. Most psychiatrists would not consider it a first line medication for OCD but I am considering using it as a standalone medication for the GAD as I’ve been able to control my OCD symptoms with ERP. They say the effects are not immediate and you usually take 2 or 3 times a day because it has a short half life.
Has anyone else taken Luvox? How long did it take to work? I'm on day 26 or 27 and I am not feeling better. I almost feel like I've been worse. my psych says it takes time and I'm likely not worse, just need time for it to adjust but im scared. Ive been taking 75mg because we went from 25 to 50 to 100 and that seemed like too much so we went back to 75 and now we are going back to 100. We are also adding Buspar three times a day so hopefully that does something. Idk, I am trying to hold out but yesterday was so bad, I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital or inpatient care somewhere.
Today I had my follow up appointment with my psychologist, I left feeling worse, I loved the psychologist I spoke to last time he was very informed and understanding, this time I got an appointment with someone who he supervises and I feel like she didn't allow me to speak, she didn't allow me to explain my thoughts or feelings, she told me I have to take my medication or she won't be able to continue helping me, which I understand but im terrified of medication I can't get over it, she said if i start the prozac and it doesn't work then I'll have to get on antipsychotics which seems a bit extreme to me considering i have no psychotic symptoms matter of fact she didn't even allow me to explain my symptoms and i feel like there's so many other antidepressants that could work before getting on antipsychotics🙁 this didn't help me at all considering the episode of ocd i just got through was about me becoming psychotic, I just feel let down and misunderstood, I almost felt as if she was mad at me for the buspar not working she said "you didn't really try it you just took it for a week so if you stopped it it's like you gave up on yourself" but it kept me up 2 nights in a row and i couldnt function from the anxiety 😞
So I have been diagnosed with GAD and OCD and my psychiatrist prescribed me with zoloft 🤔 but I dont know im really hesitant to start medication because im scared of the side effects and ik afraid of relying on a medication for a long time. Does anyone else take zoloft? What is it like? Any side effects?
