OCD and scary obsessions
OCD is often very scary and distressing, regardless of the theme. It tends to latch on your worst fears or things that feel so scary that it feels nearly impossible to tolerate any feelings of uncertainty or doubt around them. This aspect of OCD can be particularly prominent when we experience obsessions and themes that feel “taboo,” and it can feel incredibly difficult to reach out for help when we're dealing with symptoms that feel socially unacceptable or incredibly frightening. However, it's important to know that even taboo OCD themes are incredibly common—they’re just usually not discussed as often due to stigma. Reaching out to a therapist who specializes in OCD and is trained in ERP (exposure and response prevention) therapy can help you get your life back from OCD, no matter the theme.
