So rang OCD UK and OCD action today which are all charities and volunteers for ocd who have had the disorder themselves. I asked them about an action I did, and they said they can’t offer reasurence however everything I’ve discussed with them follows ocd symptoms and what others have told them about their ocd too” Is this them basically hinting “yes it’s ocd” but they just can’t physically say it as it’s reasurence
I think they mean that they can't diagnose you, but it seems to them that it is OCD.
Definitely. Seems like they’re withholding reassurance because they probably aren’t allow to offer reassurance at an OCD event! OCD likes to trick and manipulate words, so it may just be their way of saying “you should get it checked out!”

@YellowGirraffe09 It probably is! That’s why they said it lines up! Remember, they’re not licensed so they probably don’t wanna give you a “diagnosis” when they’re not licensed to do that sorta thing!

@YellowGirraffe09 They might have a feeling or an idea of it, but even if they’re certain, they can’t tell you that for sure! Always has to come from the mouth of a professional!

@Julian2006 My therapist doesn’t say it’s ocd she says “I’m sure ocd can cause that action” but “idk” which annoys me
@YellowGirraffe09 I don’t believe that most of the people volunteering at those events would be licensed to diagnose, but I could be wrong!

Yes. And it doesn't sound like its hinting at OCD its out right admitting it. If it were not OCD, they would not have withheld reassurance.

@YellowGirraffe09 - They said they didnt want to give you reassurance. Providing reassurance is giving into a compulsion. Reassurance seeking is a compulsion. Any time someone on this app says " i don't want to give you reassurance" it means we know you are struggling with OCD and we don't want to participate in the compulsion because compulsions make OCD stronger, and worse in the long run. So they said they didn't want to reassure you.. that's a response to someone with OCD who is seeking reassurance. tell me what your action was. iv had OCD for over 20 years. ill be able to identify it as OCD or not ( disclaimer I'm not a Dr but I'm experienced with OCD to give you my educated opinion)
(TW- Please don’t read if you have ocd relating to one off/random medical events) ^ ^ ^ ^ okay so this is something I’ve been confused about for YEARS and completely sped up my ocd symptoms, I had a one off seizure a few years ago, it wasn’t a major one but enough to have family take me to the hospital afterwards, I don’t remember anything whilst it was happening and I was unwell at the time too. I did all the tests and nothing came back, even tested for epilepsy but I don’t have that. No one has been able to give me a reason and that set off my ocd since mine is mostly based around things I cant see hurting me or others (contamination ocd) or me making the wrong decision (rOCD, real event etc etc) (no clue I had ocd at this point though, only got diagnosed last year) I know they can be stressed induced too but I remember not feeling that stressed that night and not much was going on… Is there anyone that’s experienced the same thing?? Could it be OCD related at all?
I had my second session with a therapist and they told me they don’t think I have OCD. They think that I have just intrusive thoughts. They also said they don’t do diagnosis. I also noticed they did not ask me questions about my different themes.This has made me so confused. Even though I had a terrible fear that a therapist will tell that I don’t have it, (which is the main reason why I had not gone to one) I did suspect I had it because I identify with many of the symptoms. On the website it says that they treat it but I don’t think they are like a specialist. On the first session they described OCD mainly as needing to have things symmetrical and fear of contamination. I have a feeling that they don’t know much about it. I also didn’t mentioned all the themes I think I have because I’m scared to be misunderstood. I am not sure what to do. I can’t afford seeing an OCD therapist at NOCD. Can anyone give an insight, has something similar happened to you? Thank you!
I'll start by saying, I have not been clinically diagnosed, as I do not have the funds to see therapists or psychiatrists in my current situation. Once I'm in a better spot, I very much intend to. That to say; after months and months of having issues with anxiety, specifically health related, my partner was the one that mentioned OCD. I did have some somewhat OCD related behaviors in my youth, though those likely could be explained by potentially undiagnosed ASD (as my mother is on the spectrum as well as a sibling, both diagnosed.) But I never considered OCD taking form in a health sense. I posted earlier about how I've had 4 days of pretty minimal anxiety and intrusive thoughts, and it has led me to doubt the OCD label I've been working at treating? I don't want to be the person that identifies themselves with a disorder they don't have, which is why I hesitate to self diagnose with OCD or ASD or anything else. At the same time, I've read that a lot of even clinically diagnosed people with OCD doubt their diagnosis. It makes me wonder if I will always have this doubt, and if that means it is worth it or not to get tested? I know that if I do, they can actually do ERP (whereas I've been self taught and self guided so far) so that would be worth it...
