I think the problem here is actually a cognitive distortion called “all-or-nothing thinking.” A house can be just a meaningless pile of bricks AND also a cosy place to call your own. It’s okay to hold both perspectives. You aren’t wrong that things are just things. But I think viewing them that way has wiped out any other kind of meaning for you. And that’s the existential OCD creating an obsession out of the meaninglessness of everything.

I think you're right. Its kind of hard to dismiss the existential look on things, though ofcourse i know my old way of viewing things is also true. It was like i on a scale of my old way to existentially, iv gone from one end to the other real fast and need to learn to find a good balance. Its a good thing im aware of the existential stuff but dont get lost in it! Thanks for the advice

Hi, considering i never really looked at things existentially so when i realised it can take some joy away. Considering i only looked at say a Ferrari of like 'course i want one, fast, prestige, nice etc' - plenty of joy and wish to have one. Now even if i find a balance with my existential ocd, i now know its just a car from A to B theres still going to be some love lost, which is understandable right? I shouldnt be all overwhelmed at the thought of a Ferrari nor should i not be bothered. What do you reckon?

Like me meeting in the middle with a load of things is still not going to be as joyful as before im trying to get at. But also i get to see things as they truely are which is kind of cool

@DrBurnzz Right now, with your theme, there’s going to be a little “joy” lost at these ideas as you learn to balance. When that happens and you notice it, rather than ruminate over it, acknowledge it as normal: “thinking about this Ferrari as both a meaningless object and really cool car takes some of the joy out of it, but that’s normal considering my theme and outlook right now.” And then move on. Eventually, that little loss of joy will stop feeling like such a big deal. But you gotta practice.

@pureolife Thanks for the response ? definitely, so theres no harm in knowing a thing is just a thing but i shouldn't JUST see it in that way. Its like on a scale of 1 being old me and 10 seeing things existentially im at a 8. I guess someone at a 1 would be a stupid person so engulfed in l life they don't even think about the bigger picture though that would be bliss. How do YOU accept life & everything in it is meaningless and just ignore it and be interested in something like sun bathe. Like get brown to go light again in a month hahaha i just dont fucking get it ???

@DrBurnzz Just keep practicing and you’ll go down to a 7 then 6 then 5. Holding both views won’t feel so contradictory or important. I hold both fairly easily. I believe the universe is inherently meaningless but that we still create our own personal meaning and project it onto it in order to create a meaningful life narrative for ourselves. Which is pretty important! It’s all meaningless and at the same time it’s the most meaningful thing we will ever do for ourselves.

It’s normally when you are numb to everything and that’s part of Ocd now that I have ocd I don’t care about the amount of money I have what I wear and What I have becaus e I’m not happy if you were happy and mentally healthy you wouldn’t be feeling like this

I get what you mean in the sense of when theres a problem until that problems fixed materialistic things seem minor. I think in my case i don't feel as if im facing a problem because realistically i'm right. It is just a house, it is just a car, a holiday is just a warmer part of the world etc. I think its like an awakening to realisation which i never really thought about and now its hard to accept/dismiss

@DrBurnzz I feel like those things are very important and reasons why you should be proud of your hard work but maybe we different if I was mentally healthy I would have been happy about this but now I think even when I get stuff I’m not happy I’m still shitty so yeah I don’t know
