Does anyone have any tips that helped them? Mine is due to a specific person and I work with them so it’s been really difficult. I’ve started ERP which has been reaaalllllly challenging and I would love to hear from anyone else that has gone through any type of contamination ocd and how they have overcome or are fighting their way through it. I am working on becoming a health professional and being around sick people all day has been extremely challenging. One thing that helps most is doing what I can to protect myself. We wear Personal Protective Equipment which helps limit the spread of infection. Also trusting your body to fight whatever you’re being exposed to. I struggle with others preparing my food as well because of cross contamination and the possibility they could try to poison me. I haven’t overcome this one yet and is still a challenge for me but I’m working on trusting those around me. Trust yourself!
@EmyBerry._.2 This all started because I saw his hygiene issues and didn’t want to touch anything that he touched going forward so then I felt like I had to always wash my hands and not touch anything, not let my clothes touch anything he may have touched and make sure when I came home that I separated all my clothes and have a separate laundry basket that I keep in our guest bathroom and made sure my work shoes are kept by the front door and I do not walk through the house and them. I feel like anything that grazed or touched my home stuff meant that he was touching it and that’s just how it has been. I’ve never had any type of OCD. I even have a separate body scrubber that I use during the work week and one that I used over the weekend. It has gone to such a deep level and I’m praying that with NOCD and ERP I can get healed because the way this is taken over my life. I can’t even put words except for this long ass paragraph lol.
@JCTC You will get better with your NOCD therapy and ERP. Just be consistent. I have contamination ocd too so I understand how you feel.
@JCTC Idk, some ish is just gross lol. Be on the lookout for repetitive compulsions that take up most of your day, but if the dude has actual hygiene issues ask him to clean lol. Maybe ask your friends what they think? I still struggle with dirty bathrooms, but I had to practice being anxious with it becauae I couldnt even clean my own bathroom, which kind of became a problem.
@Anonymous He is my boss lol. It’s a struggle every single day. I’m going to start back on Zoloft until I meet with a new therapist and get their feedback. Since I’m not taking anything at all I’m starting to feel anxiety that is causing me to tear up when I have moments to myself and think about all of this because I cannot believe this is my life when this is not happening to other people. My husband walks around the house, barefoot, and could care less about things like that and look at me. 😭
@JCTC Ooh, lol. Like you pass him at work and then keep everything separate at home.
I find imaginal scripts useful. You can ask your therapist about them. Basically, you write down a worst case scenario and then use that to expose yourself to the fear.
Does anyone have any tips on how to handle contamination OCD?
If anyone has beaten or gotten a lot better with contamination ocd how long did it take and how did you do it? I don’t see myself getting over this theme for a long time but I’m worried for my future like getting a job , I’m scared I won’t be able to cope with bacteria in a workplace and stuff like that. Just feeling lost in recently :(
Hello, i have very severe contamination ocd, and as i am writing this i feel my hands are dirty lol, but anyways i wanted to know if there’s anyone specialised in Contamination ocd? No matter what type because i really need help and i looked up things but it doesn’t help please!!
