Does anyone know a user on Instagram / “ocd advocate”? It’s a girl probably in her twenties, has her hair up, used to be Catholic and has a tattoo? She was on my Instagram page out here advocating for soocd while her biggest fear became true. I’m really not okay with that cause she triggered so many people. Pls let me know.
I didn’t see the video, but I think she’s allowed to share her experience on the internet. I understand it was triggering for you, but we have to be responsible for our own triggers and not expect others to protect us from them. She’s being honest about her OCD and sexuality journey! I think that’s okay. I am also sorry that you’re struggling.
@Anonymustard I fully understand your point. And thank you for understanding my point. But I want to ask, would you say the same thing to someone who had POCD or Harm ocd who acted on their thoughts and actually harmed someone?
@ocdsurviver I think that hypothetical is very different from this SOOCD situation, because being gay doesn’t harm anyone. It’s hard to imagine a similar scenario of someone sharing that kind of thing in a reel — but I still think that in the hypothetical scenario that someone “became” their harm OCD I think they were allowed to share their experience too. Hopefully that hypothetical person would be regretful and change their ways.
@Anonymustard Just because SOOCD might seem “harmless” compared to harm ocd, it is still very harmful to the person experiencing it. Especially if a person has had love for a specific person and that is now ruined. The same for a person who has a different orientation that suddenly becomes a different orientation. I think we collectively need to stop categorizing soocd as less harmless, cause it brings so much harm to the people experiencing it.
@ocdsurviver Oh that’s not what I meant. I know it’s very difficult to deal with and I would never minimize that. What I mean is that if we’re talking about “becoming” your OCD, becoming gay does not directly hurt another person (I understand it hurts you to have soocd). So for this reels creator to talk about it “coming true” is something that she’s more likely to share in the internet than someone whose harm ocd “came true.” Not saying the experience is easier for those with soocd, just saying that it “coming true” isn’t illegal or hurtful to others physically. Regardless I think people are allowed to talk about their experiences with this stuff online. Especially experiences they had which aren’t illegal or harmful to others.
Maybe there was lots of drinking and they gave it a try…. You shouldn’t let a random post unravel you. People are all different. Maybe this person’s issue is NOT EVEN OCD!!!!! We don’t have to accept everything we hear!
@vgb True! The thing is she said she had contamination ocd before this and she used to do soocd compulsions. It’s so mind confusing. But I also wanna note that I did not watch the full video until the end
@ocdsurviver Don’t!!! Just cuz she’s on this platform doesn’t mean it’s gospel. There are tons of people in the world w tons of differences, respectfully, you need to weed through the nonsense
I don't know her - but it's important to understand that life is full of triggers and uncertainties. OCD treatment is about learning to navigate this life - not fly from triggers. Hope you'll find ways to manage.
@Estrid I understand. But it’s so unfair for people with ocd. She shouldn’t post that her fear became true and she lives with it. She has sent sooo many people in a spiral 😭

@ocdsurviver You will not line this but in a way it's a good thing, cause the goal of ocd treatment is to learn to live in a world where your fear can happen or come true - accepting uncertainty

@Ms.shelovesfrogs I don’t remember her name or profile 😭 Her reel just came up on my explore page. In the beginning she was explaining how she had soocd and then the moment she said she became her fear I clicked off immediately and started crying and having a panic attack. I wish I didn’t click off so I could comment and tell her to never post something like that again
@yoooff So true! I also thought of that and how terrifying it must be. HOCD/SOCD is as bad but too many people let it slide - just like this girl who posted that reel. I really need to find that reel

@ocdsurviver I’m so sorry 😞 I’ll check i should be able to find her since I follow tons of ocd advocate + wanna know what I think?? I think, “she became her fear” didn’t mean she discovered she was not what she thought she was, maybe she was talking about how worse it became or how she had to accept uncertainty but I’ll check.. + even if she discovered something else, she’s just among the one percent of people with soocd that discover otherwise!
@ocdsurviver OCD almost never leads to self discovery 💡. It just torments us.. if it leads to self discovery that means it was more than just soocd

I’ve been dealing with SOOCD for over a year now, and I have been having a very hard day today. I feel like I just need someone to talk too, my whole life I’ve always had girl crushes and always wanted to be romantic with women . Ever since I posted this picture on instagram and one person said I looked “zesty” in it , which is when I started obsessing about being gay . I feel like I put so much meaning to these thoughts where now I’m always checking how I feeling around men. I had a really bad porn addiction for a long time and bad anxiety which fucked up my sex drive. I feel like I doubt if I’m attracted to women when I know I am , but the doubt is so overbearing where I start to believe it . I never was interested in men sexually, and my ocd makes me feel like I like the thoughts even though I feel no pleasure out of it. I feel like I lost who I am as a person . It feels like I don’t even know what my sexuality is and it’s really upsetting to me . I meant this girl the other day and she is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met and I just feel like ocd is getting in the way😭😭😭 please any advice or comments
17f Basically I made a post about POCD, saying that one phrase people often say as a reassurance is not true and it never helps me because I know it's not true. At the beginning of the post I made a warning, saying that this will be triggering for those with POCD. So I warned. And then in the comments someone started seeking reassurance and freaking out. And she said stuff that are not true again, at first I argued a bit cause well... I made a post and I wanted to defend my position, so I defended what I said. Like what I needed to do? Lie to her? Now i think that I should've just ignored that user But then after we talked she said that because of my post she now thinks she is a pedophile and will off herself and then spammed me with comments asking for reassurance At first I was trying to calm her down, saying that if her psychiatrist said that she has POCD then she is not a P and stuff, but then I just realized I can't do anything so I just replied to every one of her comments "I'm not a therapist. I can't help you. You need to seek professional help and shouldn't rely on the opinion of the strangers on the internet" Now I feel so guilty. I mean she was the one to start asking questions, and sometimes when I argue I feel too passionate to defend my position in the argument and forget about people's feelings so I said a very harsh truth to her after she started arguing with me and I made it worse for her Even though I knew how suicidal you can feel because of POCD I still argued
My OCD is directly tied to my PTSD from being hospitalized in the past. I feel incredibly alone because of this. I’m 26 and was hospitalized twice - once when I was 14 for an eating disorder, where I experienced solitary confinement and SA. Then again when I was 22 for depression, where I was “cold-turkey” from one of my medications and almost had a heart attack. I’m traumatized because of these events and struggle with “insanity OCD” that directly ties into my trauma where I get terrified I’ll “lose control” and do something that will cause me to be hospitalized against my will and taken away from my loved ones. I’m scared to even seek therapy or reach out. If anyone has similar experiences/lived experience I’d greatly appreciate your guidance. Please forgive any grammatical errors; I’m not in the best state of mind rn.
