Soocd and rocd

@yoooff I do actually. I regularly tell people with POCD that they might be pedophiles and they need to learn to accept that discomfort in the unknown. This is how we treat OCD.

@sophea Telling someone with POCD that they might be pdfs and that they need to sit with that doubt is definitely not helpful nor accurate. The vast majority of people that suffer from POCD are not pdfs. The very contrary, which is the reason the thoughts are so disturbing and cause so much anxiety. Instead is better to tell them how OCD manipulates your thoughts and makes disturbing connections and takes normal things and turns them into disturbing thoughts and possibilities. It can even manifest in body sensations through hyper body sensitivity. So telling someone yeah you might be one just try to accept that you may or not be … definitely not the way - it will make them feel much worse. Educate them on how POCD works so they can better separate themselves from OCD, not sit there thinking a may or not be a pdf 🤦🏽‍♂️.

@sophea I’m well aware of how ERP works. I’m going through it myself right now and have another session tomorrow. You can still practice all this after separating intrusive thoughts from your real thoughts. Educating yourself on how POCD works and how it affects the brain and body won’t stop the intrusive thoughts it will just make it easier to ignore them and sit with the false uncertainty feeling without giving in which what ERP is about. There’s certain things where the “maybe, maybe not” approach could work but POCD is not one of them.

@Amilton I have firsthand experience with how POCD is treated, and sitting with the uncertainty is it. I don't know what to tell you.

@sophea That is literally what I am saying and I have also treated my POCD to a good extent. I said learning the facts about how it works will make it easier to sit with the false uncertainty OCD causes. We essentially saying the same thing I am just saying that the “maybe I am pdf or maybe I’m not” is not an ideal no one wants to consider the possibility even at 50% that you could indeed be a pdf since most people with POCD aren’t. Learning the facts about how POCD works and using those to sit with the uncertainty and not giving into the “what ifs” and intrusive thoughts is more practical. But anyhow if that worked for you then I am honestly happy for you. I just wanted to comment so other people that struggle with POCD can have access to both perspectives.

@sophea I understand you’re trying to help with ERP but you need to realize everyone moves at their own pace. And as you are not a licensed professional, you shouldn’t be deeming what is good for a person in their journey. It’s extremely unhelpful and damaging.

@SAGUI But to be fair I like girls because I am a guy. I don’t know. Because sometimes I’ll look at my crush and think I don’t really like her but I’ll see pictures from two years ago and I don’t know. So I’m not sure. Like, I think she’s cute. I like her eyes and her hair but I don’t know. Maybe you just haven’t been intimate enough with your boyfriend. Try talking to him more. I don’t think being a homosexual is bad but I understand why you wouldn’t want to be gay. In the same way how someone gay wouldn’t want to be straight. Not because you’re homophobic but because it’s not you. And if you don’t want to be gay that’s a strong sign you aren’t. A homosexual person doesn’t think, “I want to be gay” unless they’re growing up in a homophobic environment, they think “I wish society would allow me to be intimate with the same gender.” So after this TED talk I don’t think you’re gay. Hehe, it autocorrected gay to fat for some reason. I don’t think you’re fat 😂

@SAGUI Hahaha the fat thing made me laugh, I think for me because i am very open to maybe being gay it is more about being right, like if i am gay i need to stop my relationship, am i sure that i like my man and men in general and because i have been having ocd very long and has felt real and i even did start trying kissing girls and so on to check how i felt it feels really really real , i do think i love my bf and even after trying and doing lots of things i dont really know if i am bi straight gay, my biggest fear is that i dont really like men so i need to stop my relationship, i dont want to stop my relationship

@Mags2002 So yeaaaaah i keep trying to figure out stuff and then have intrusive thoughts about being wrong that i restart figuring out , so that makes me feel weird and not at peace in the relationships i am in and that makes me very sad, i want to love my man and be so sure and everything

@Mags2002 Aww. Dude, if you don’t want stop you’re relationship that’s a sign you’re not really interested in going for a girl instead of your man. You’re probably bisexual, idk. But still. I would stick with your man since you say you love him. That’s not me trying to keep you straight, it’s just, if you love him don’t let OCD stop you from having a healthy relationship and spending so much time looking for another one. That’s so cute to be honest. I’m a guy, why am I saying cute? Point I wouldn’t leave him.

@SAGUI I mean, I don’t think I’m gay so I don’t really have a good perspective to tell you if you’re bisexual. I have seen this one guy though and I found him attractive and I got worried. I also once did have boy crushes in high school but something else was happening that time that I think was causing me to be that way. Long story short: coping mechanism. Anyway, I think you should stay. Like, if you feel happy with him and cuddling with him makes you happy and you like kissing him (tmi I’m sorry) and you look the love he gives you then I would stay. Personally. Also whenever I get worried I’m gay I just think, “If I was the opposite gender I would still be attracted to women”and that usually calms me down. And if it doesn’t I think, “I’m only gay for Pedro Pascal.”

@SAGUI I do think i need to stay and i want to stay , kissing is something i am working on as that is the thing that ocd has been really focussing on but i do think i love me boyfriend and men in général but well ocd you know the tricks it does hahah

@SAGUI No worry i dont think you are gay , i dont link sexuality with personality and identity in general also, people just love people in my opinion , thats helps me a lot when things are messe because of soocd ,does this thought help you?

@Mags2002 Oh, I don’t have soocd. I can’t even say I have ocd because I haven’t been diagnosed. Like, I have symptoms but I can’t say I have it because I haven’t been diagnosed. I’m just here to see if I relate to any of you and to learn more about this stuff. I think I have symmetry and POCD. As well as some other types but I’m too lazy to write them and they’re not as common. But I can’t say I have OCD. I’m just trying to learn about myself right now. But yeah, sorry about the rant. I think you might be bi but you very much do love your boyfriend. I can say that for sure.

@SAGUI I feel like you do have some symptoms, it can be interesting for you maybe to already try some of the erp and act methods even if you are not diagnosed , thank u for supporting me , i also have had pocd for a short period so i know your struggle , here to say that you can do this and you will get better !
