Panicking cause there’s people doing construction outside my house and there cutting in the ground it’s like black concrete and garden patio tiles and I’m now panicking about it releasing asbestos into the air and gone into my house through my window and now gone all over my room
From what I found from some research for you —-asbestos fibers are heavy and settle quickly; the idea that enough asbestos (if present) could travel from outside, through a window, and coat a whole room is not consistent with how asbestos disperses. This sounds more like OCD latching onto a worst-case scenario rather than an actual environmental danger. Of course, if there were real asbestos remediation going on, the workers would have proper signage, suits, and containment procedures in place. Hope this helps a bit 💕

@LittleLight This is where the panic comes from and the worry in just assuming the things there cutting into has got asbestos in its the what if they don’t care about it the way I do and worry the way I do
@Sam Thorn Yea I definitely understand that! But, that is OCD coming through with the what if scenarios. Once you feel comfortable about them doing construction it may very well pop up with another concern that’s how OCD operates unfortunately. Part of starting healing from OCD is sitting in the uncertainty, which is easier said than done. You can do it though, you’re already on this platform trying to understand why your mind latches onto things like this. Understanding what’s going on in your brain is the start of simmering down how OCD try’s to run your life by fear every minute of the day 😒
@LittleLight I find it really hard to move on I feel like I can’t move on with my day without now hoovering my room or now going to shower I feel like I have to go do those things because the asbestos is everywhere and over me I know logically it don’t make sense but I feel like I have to do those things before I can move on with my day I’m in therapy at the minute but my therapy is referring me to someone different cause I’m finding very hard to not do the compulsions
@Sam Thorn Yea one thought I had a second ago is a lot of times is fear is louder than logic. I literally had OCD cycle through prob 6 different themes or more during the day trying to get me hooked on fear of something so I can’t function. Once you get a few “wins” under your belt due to resisting the fear and living anyway it starts to get a lot better. I was thinking I was going to have to live in perpetual fear all day long , but that’s definitely not the case. You can do it, it just takes time and resilience 🙂

Plus, asbestos doesn’t become dangerous unless it’s disturbed in very specific ways (like cutting into old insulation or pipes), and even then, the exposure risk is typically long-term and occupational, not from one moment with a window open. Right now, your OCD is doing what it does best — latching onto a fear and running wild with it. But try this: take a breath, close your window if it helps you feel safer, and remind yourself this is anxiety talking, not actual danger. You’re okay, and you’re safe. You’re doing your best — and that’s enough right now. 💛
@Vamp DeVille I’m really struggling at the minute with the asbestos and it’s destroying me I worry so much and panic I cant do anything the construction outside has really made it worse and I can’t stop thinking about it I have the need to hoover my room clean my room have a shower but my ocd makes it so hard doing those things I find it very hard listening to people when I get told there’s no asbestos my mum and dad and my parter all tell me but I don’t seem to listen
I live in my parents’ house and they are currently redoing the roof and the insulation in the attic. My parents’ house is at least 50 years old. The only way into the attic is through my room. I knew I would have to relocate but now I feel like my room is contaminated and can just never been clean. I feel like everything needs to be thrown away that was exposed to the old insulation or touched by the workers. No matter what I do I just will always think that my room is dirty. Does anyone know how to push past getting stuck with these thoughts? Or dealing with people making you feel worse because they don’t understand?
Recently a deceased tenant was found in apartment next door to my mine. This is an extremely distressing situation and I am unable to let go of replaying the images of a funeral service removing the body through the hallway to the elevator and the super foul odor. This has made my living situation unbearable. I am hoping the landlord may allow me to relocate to another property/unit but my lease is not over for 6 months. They covered one night at a hotel while they ozone the air and hired a cleaning crew. Nonetheless I am immensely obsessed the air is still hazardous and another tenant will be found next to me again! I am compulsively holding my breath, blowing air out my nostrils, keeping the window open then close, spraying air freshener, avoiding the frequency of passing through the shared hallway, not going in the elevator, repetitive looking at the shared wall and their door, not touching the shared wall. Obsessed haunted presence. Obsessed I will get sick and die breathing in the air of the decomposing body. Obsessed with death the fear of the unknowing, what if no one found me like the tenant (7 days), how I will die, when I will die, what happens after death, being buried alive or cremated alive! Fear it’s not in my control! Fear how others will die! When others die! Especially my dog!! Fear I won’t be able to cope when my dog dies!
I have risk factors for cancer and there’s stuff I’ve done in the past that’s killing me. Like now I’m fated. And I’m having symptoms of colon cancer and I feel like the sky is falling.
