What if I didn’t repent for something that I’ve been thinking abt but don’t know if it’s a sin like should I repent for it anyway I have this interaction that keeps spiraling through my mind and idk if I should text the person about it or just leave it
You are forgiven even if you don't tell God that you repent. You are constantly covered in forgiveness. Think about how the ocean constantly gives waves--and there is always more water. There is always more grace and always more forgiveness. That's the point of the cross. You are forgiven for everything, past, present, and future. I used to feel like I had to tell God I'm sorry for every sin. And if I didn't catch everything, then I felt like I wouldn't be forgiven. I later learned that truth that we are forgiven anyway--and we don't have to pray about every single sin. My mother-in-law just encouraged me to just say at night, "God, please forgive me for ALL my sins today." That helped me a lot to let go of my compulsion to confess every single sin. I just said that one thing and let all the particulars go.
Agree with Allison. Sounds like a confession compulsion. Recognize you're ruminating, it's also a compulsion and should be avoided. Whatever is causing this distress is the trigger. Once you can identify the trigger, you can then apply tools to properly respond. Doing nothing is most likely the best bet. :-)
U don’t have to figure anything out right now. Maybe u sinned and didn’t realize and maybe u didn’t. Just keep doing u.
Live with the uncertainty. It pays off dividends in the future, even if it may not feel like it in the present.
@Smilethroughitt Can you elaborate more a little bit as I’m in the exact same boat where: - questioning wether I require to confess vs personal repentance - and the events aren’t serious but i still feel I must And the shred chance of making the wrong choice by not confessing is in my mind
@52stow.woofs Whatever you’re questioning, literally tell yourself “yeah, maybe”. Maybe it’s true that committed a sin, maybe it’s not. That’s literally the mantra. And trust me, it’s easier said than done but the whole point is nothing in life is for certain. There will never be 100% certainty in anything. That’s why OCD is so tough because it NEEDS 100% certainty, which is what sends us in these loops of what ifs, rumination etc. If you pray, ask for forgiveness. God will always forgive. If the interaction was truly a sin, it will eventually reveal itself. Texting a person to try and figure out if you were in the wrong could sometimes be masked as a compulsion which only makes things worse. Be kind to yourself and move on!
Repentance is a change of direction, turning away from sinful ways and turning towards God. It's obviously a part of our moment of salvation, but can be necessary when we're living as we shouldn't. Anything we add to Jesus sacrifice as a requirement to earn salvation, is false teaching. Wasn't what Jesus did on the cross sufficient? Like I can add something else to pay for my sin? As the old hymn says "Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin has left a crimson stain, He's washed me white as snow"
I don't really know if it's OCD, but lately I've been thinking a lot and in a very obsessive way that every single one of my actions, words or even thoughts will affect on how God will make decisions about my life. For example, if I lie to someone or yell at them out of anger, God will make happen something bad to me as a "punishment". I know it might seem silly, but it really really freaks me out sometimes... Does anyone feel the same? And if so, do you do something in particular to feel better? Thanks for your understanding❤️
I used to have religious OCD. Still kinda do. Accidentally thought something bad about God once, panicked thought something bad about the Holy Spirit. Fell into doom. This was recently after recomitting myself to Christ. Since then I pretty much gave up. Unfortunately, it also led to me compromising my morals many times because I figured I was going to hell anyway. I wish I knew what OCD was then. I think it would have saved me a lot of pain. I no longer have a relationship with God, and fear I never will again.
Does anyone feel like god didn't forgive them even after confessing? Doing alot of sins and confessed but still have this fear of thoughts telling you you had so bad Thoughts about him and that you don't deserve to be forgiven? Or it's too late? And anything religious triggers you?
