Was chilling with my housemate and we was watching family guy the episode was of Peter griffin and the other guy forgot his name dressed up as police beating up a cleveland (black guy) and she was like look look and then laughing saying they’re gonna do a racist joke and I understood the context behind it but me as a black women idk I felt uncomfortable with her saying I do find racist jokes funny no race is safe they even mocked Portuguese people (We both speak Portuguese but she’s white) Like idk am I overthinking it for not wanting to be like hanging with her anymore why do ppl always have to ruin something we had such a good night.

Idk what episode ur talking about but it’s valid to not be okay with jokes like that. Like I understand some people find them funny but it can be at the expense of others and people need to be aware of that. Idk if I’m the best person to be speaking on this but that’s just what I think 💗

I think its normal to be sensitive to humor especially when someone else doesnt know the pain you go through or the setbacks you have to live with. But it requires much introspection and willingness to see that although something is presented in a joking manner, it could be damaging to someone else. This is a tricky one because the right exposure would be to watch more funny stuff together but that could be damaging your own self outside of just the OCD. Im sorry you have to experience that:(

I definitely feel you on this one I don’t like jokes like that at all and for her to be like look look is kinda weird it’s like she was making a big deal out of it on purpose when she could’ve just laughed and moved on it seem like she was testing you to see if you were gonna be okay with it but maybe I’m reading to much into it. Sometimes though as black people were told jokes aren’t that serious but it’s serious to us because we live through it we can’t never change our skin color and we go through so much micro aggressions even up here I felt like I was being a victim of a white woman lying on me but you know what I payed it no mind sometimes we just have to take people for what they are and just leave them where they at.

@Kei1 Exactly that’s how I felt about it like why do u as a white perosn feel so comfy to do that maybe it’s been tolerated else where ?!! Like as a black person I feel like uknoe some white ppl are just so entitled I just feel like she could’ve read the room abit more like police brutality is never funny …..

I honestly don’t even see how people are bold enough to make jokes like that I’m 18 and I don’t joke like that because at the end of the day race is a concept I’m gonna respect everybody some people just built different though.

It depends if she is racist herself or just thought it was funny. Do you think she would laugh at a white racist joke? If she would then maybe she did not intended to offend you and just made a dumb comment. She felt comfortable saying that in front of you her black friend. I don’t know her so it’s hard to say. Maybe you can ask her before you decide to end the friendship. Hope this helps ease your feelings best wishes

Awkward interaction im scared was racist

I just left my apartment and was heading out ,when a guy who was black poked his head out of the elevator and scared me by accident. I immediately apologized bc i think i jumped or gasped a little. Then i was like 'what if he thinks I'm racist if I take the stairs like i usually do instead of the elevator ' bc i usually take the stairs since I'm on the 2nd floor. I went over and tried to go in the elevator but it was already closing. So he awkwardly held it open and I apologized again. I stood in the elevator and I think he took a step away from me. I'm scared i was racist somehow and it felt rly awkward overall.

So I was at a family thing yesterday and my ice was bothering me and I kept washing my hands and my family noticed and started making fun of me for it and it was like non stop it made me feel really alone especially since they clearly know something’s up but they just make it worse instead of at least trying to help😕

I thought I was doing so well. But then my partner accidentally & unknowingly triggered me by jokingly saying about himself that “he’s pretty ugly anyways.” My thought of thinking he looks ugly sometimes is the main thing my ocd revolves around. Now I feel like I SHOULD be distressed over this thought after him jokingly saying this. Ugh
