Daughter always feels nauseaus

Hi group, My pre teen daughter deals with constant nausea. She said she felt it for the longest time, however, it wasn't until the start of 2025 that it began to control her life. This led to panic attacks when going to school and not wanting to go to places that were too far from home. She doesn't even want to sleep over her grandparent's house, or friend's houses. It got so bad she missed the last 3 weeks of school, amongst other things we have never seen in her before. She is taking some meds, but they aren't helping with the nauseous feeling like we hoped. Anybody else face a constant nausea feeling that brings about a level of anxiety and panic? The idea of getting tested for food allergies was brought up, which does make sense. -Thanks-

Somatic OCD can cause me some crazy symptoms but I normally only get nauseous as a result of extreme anxiety or stress. If she is on certain medication they can absolutely cause severe nausea that isn't easily treatable with anti-nausea meds. It would be good to talk to a doctor to rule out physical causes, then look at medication regiment to see the possible cause.

Thanks for this response. She had several blood tests, which ruled out many things. Even saw a gastroenterologist and she was cleared of all things. She felt nauseous before the meds too.

@Anonymous She saw her regular doctor, natural health Dr, and a gastroenterologist. She had a ton of blood tests to check for things like pan/pandas, Lyme, Crohn's, and several other possibilities. Everything came back normal. I was hoping something came back positive that was treatable with some meds for short term.

@Anonymous The doctor said stool testing wasn't necessary based on the results. She did sibo testing and nothing. We at first thought she had some type of long term bacterial infection after getting sick in the winter.

Unfortunately, I deal with this and it's taken a long time and many tests to figure out that I have severe silent acid reflux. The meds gave me more side effects then I would like so I've managed through diet and natural products . Some weeks are still rough but more good days then bad . I also have gerd and diverticulitis which contribute. Although allergy tests didn't show an allergy I limited dairy , gluten, refined sugar and soy which have done wonders for me. I still cheat on these but again it's helped a ton. They also had to rule out crohn's and graves so definitely can be caused by many things and I'm so sorry she's going through this. It definitely made me avoid and it's awful to experience and can definitely take a mental toll. I hope she and you get some answers

Thank for this response. I am wondering if there is some sensitivity to foods. Thinking of getting an allergy test for foods. It's worth a shot. Crohn's was ruled out, but I never thought of silent acid reflux. I'll have to look into that. It's just weird that it seemed to hit all of a sudden. Maybe a food journal and nausea scale... The children's hospital actually prescribed her some meds to numb the stomach to see if the symptoms went away..they didn't. But thanks for sharing these things. I will check in with her doctor to see if that is something they can look into.

@Anonymous Yeah the meds did more harm to me or didn't work . Even the food testing was not conclusive because it was not allergy but my I just couldn't digest it . Working with nutritionist and holistic doctors is what worked best and eventually going to docs armed with more info . But yes the acid reflux came out of nowhere for me too and it was incredibly difficult for them to pinpoint as it's not something they normally think of a long with food sensitivity vs allergy . Hope she gets some answers 🙏.

@Anonymous Diet has been best for me but also probiotics and probiotics, ginger and papaya have all been great . I would also look at environmental factors again this is not to make anything scary it's just things I experienced that I needed to rule out . Please take it with a grain of salt . I had mold in my environment and really messed up my digestive system . I also had thyroid issues that contributed. I have no clue if these things or even the acid reflux is happening but I understand needing to balance the physical health and mental and trying to sort through it. I know for me at least everyone told me that it was related to my mental health and I won't lie much like it's been posted here my mental health OCD specifically can definitely have physical symptoms and is contributed to me feeling very sick but I knew there was something deeper and mine took a really long time to find the right people to test for the right things. But again meds only could do so much and eventually I had to advocate for myself and even if a test came back positive or negative I still really pursued diet natural supplements and Western medicine and have found some relief. Acupuncture also really helped me as did very specific body Work massage to alleviate certain muscle groups that contributed to my digestion.

@Anonymous All very good information and absolutely worth looking into. I've heard about mold before causing issues, especially for PANS/PANDAS. I'll probably look into testing for mold so we can rule another thing out. Again, all great information for me to research and test out. Much appreciated.

@Anonymous Actually, I'm curious about the mold testing, if you did it at your house. I know I can research it, and will, but it's clearer hearing how easy, or overly complicated it is, as a process.

Certainly possible that this is an OCD hyperfixation, especially since it is now linked to anxiety. Since all the tests have come back negative and no obvious physical problem is present, it may be time to test whether exposure to public situations while nauseaus will provide gradual relief. My OCD is powerful enough to produce false sensations of needing to use the bathroom, and during flare ups I almost constantly feel like I need to use the bathroom. Only thing that helps me is going on with my day and forcing myself to only use the bathroom every x amount of hours.

Emetophobia/OCD

This has recently developed into something much bigger than it originally was. When this past winter season started, i noticed more people were getting the stomach bug than usual. I was fine at first, until I was noticing almost one person in every class was saying they recently had it. I researched about it, and I found what I was looking for unfortunately. Norovirus cases were surging across the U.S because of a new strain of NoV that recently had been spreading. This immediately altered my way of thinking. Everywhere I went, I would be overly cautious of what’s around me and whose around me. The first obsessive compulsive problem I had was that I couldn’t eat at lunch anymore unless I washed my hands. One time, I didn’t have an option to wash my hands, so I didn’t eat lunch. That’s when I knew it was interfering with my daily life, and it was becoming a serious issue. There was another time where some guy threw up near me in the hallway trash can. My mind was spiraling. all. day. long. It felt like it was consuming me alive. Not a minute would go by where I wouldn’t think about it, and the high possibility of me catching this virus. There’s been so many other scenarios where I feel myself losing it. I’m not the best of explaining in detail how my mind feels when it spirals, but the best thing I could say is that I could feel myself slowly losing my mind. It takes over my life. I HAVE to act on my compulsive acts, if not, i’ll have these obsessive thoughts until it consumes me whole. I’ve had nervous breakdowns, panic attacks, anxiety attacks, insomnia, and it almost feels like it’s causing me to have an eating disorder. Most recently, I went to use the bathroom and saw what looked like puke on the toilet seat. I was already using it, so I just finished my buisness and rushed out there asap. I figured, if I fasted for two days, what’s there to puke if I do catch NoV? So, I did. I missed school because on the second day of fasting, I became very dehydrated. I was weak, and couldn’t move. I realized what this all rooted back to. That’s when I knew I needed help.

Health OCD/anxiety stomach cancer fears

Hi, I have been under extreme stress since about March this year, and from that started suffering from very bad health anxiety which has caused panic attacks etc. I’m in the middle of a spiral right now though because I am certain I have stomach cancer. I am 31 and female. Last week I had a very good few days anxiety wise and almost felt like myself. But on Sunday morning I woke up having to rush to the bathroom (TMI sorry) and felt very nauseous. I am emetophobic so this scared me too. Since then I have been having bad stomach cramps, had to rush to the toilet once a day, and some nausea. I have no appetite at all (last week I had a very good appetite but this week I am having to force myself to eat). I am thinking about my symptoms constantly which I think might be making them worse. I have had a bowel screening done which was clear so no blood, and a calprotectin which was very slightly raised at 53, but my GP said she wasn’t concerned about it but would refer me for further testing if I wanted. So I do have more tests booked but not for some months yet. I’m just really scared because of the stomach cramps, nausea, and having to rush to the bathroom once a day for five days now. I have also had bad acid reflux but that only tends to happen when I have taken propranolol. I also have IBS so maybe my anxiety has flared it up but I’m not convinced. I’m just so scared to the point I can’t leave the house and I have been lay in bed for five days thinking about my symptoms and that I could have stomach cancer. I have also been referred for CBT in the near future to help deal with this, but I’m scared that I’m brushing something off as anxiety and giving time for the illness to spread. I just feel constantly scared. I thought I’d had a breakthrough last week but this has just hit me like a tonne of bricks. Has anyone else dealt with anything like this? I just want to feel okay again I am freaking out so bad

Advice for coping with 15 yr old daughter anxiety

Hi. My 15 year old daughter is just getting started with her OCD journey. We have only so far done 2 intake sessions with her therapist. It seems like in past week her anxiety has been getting worse. She goes to church camp tomorrow for 5 days. Any advice things to say to help reassure her without fueling the fire? . Or any tips your kids have done to work through the anxiety and panic when away from home? She has very negative thoughts about herself/appearance, contamination. I’m just worried how the week will go. She has been having difficulties even on family outings this week, feeling overwhelmed, panic, wanting to go home. Thanks in advance.
