Iām a momma of 2 that has suffered debilitating PP anxiety/depression etc and have recently come to the realization that PPOCD is my main issue. Iām just here trying to learn what I can and try my darnedest to get back to my old mentality for my babies.
Hey there! I am a mom as well and even though my post partum issues were not OCD related I suffer from contamination OCD now. Many things exacerbate our condition as moms especially losing sleep and the real anxiety that child constantly pose trying to get into things they shouldnāt and always being sick etc! @Kelly44198 We live in such a scary world these days. I feel like I constantly need to keep them in a bubble to keep them safe and I know thatās not the best thing for any of us, I just have not been able to overcome these intense fears of my kids getting sick and feel that any time they were to get sick itās going to be the absolute worst possible. Itās absolutely taking over my every thought at this point. I feel as though I canāt even go to the store without needing to shower and change clothes when I get home or I canāt do something with one child and help the other child without washing my hands in between. Itās so intense and I just feel so hopeless that this will ever end at this point.
@heather.deej It is a scary world for sure! When my son started school we were sick every other week and I want to remind you that this is normal as well even with the most fastidious hygiene! My pediatrician has said itās a good idea to change the kids clothes when they come home from school or daycare etc but try to remember that no matter what they will get sick and itās not a failing. Itās a natural part of the development of their immune systems. I think for those of us who had covid babies it came on so much harsher because the kids were sheltered for the first part of their lives as infants and it scared all of us, even those without OCD. Mom of two as well and the fact that youāre strong enough to get help is great! ERP, meditation and medication has helped me a lot. Do not need to be perfect or do it perfectly āŗļøā¦ One day at a time and give yourself grace and self compassion. Your kids will learn that as well.
@Anonymous Iām so fearful that Iām keeping my kids from truly being kids and that Iām just failing as a mom because of how debilitating this has become. My family doesnāt understand why I have such a hard time going to gatherings when there are 30+ people in a small space or why I canāt go out and do things like I used to. Iāve really lost my light and I so desperately want it back. It never used to be this way and I just canāt live like this anymore (not saying I donāt want to live, I just donāt want to have this terrible constant irrational fear looming over me all the time.)
@heather.deej Are you in therapy? ERP and medication has helped me a lot. Still have those intrusive thoughts that I might not be a good mom, but I am able to see them as clouds or at least catch myself and use ERP. I understand you and youāre stronger than you think! ā¤ļø
Iāve always had ocd. But never experienced pocd until after I got pregnant and was fixing to deliver. Anyone else? Iāve been struggling with this for almost 2 years š© and Prozac gives me heart palpitations Iām at my breaking point. Idk who I am anymore. And itās so hard having to be a mother of two on top of not wanting to do anything bc my brain tells me everything Iām doing is inappropriate ā¹ļø
Hi there! I am 4 months postpartum and struggling with harm ocd, the fear of what if I harm my child. It has manifested to the fear of what if I harm my husband, sister, nieces, parents, etc. Anyone else have this experience and how did you get through it?
Iām 19 and struggle with health anxiety, contamination, harm, and magical thinking OCD and would love to meet people with similar experiences and hardships because I have never had an opportunity for such a supportive community!
