About the takedown of our Suicide Prevention Live Q&A
As some of you may be aware, on World Suicide Prevention Day, my NOCD live Q&A on suicide prevention was, with no warning, flagged and removed. It was meant to be an hour of hope for the OCD community; instead, we had to remove the word “suicide” from the title to be able to restart the event, and contend with the same shame we’re trying to fight. It was so very disappointing for our panel and our listeners to be shamed once again for having to deal with a topic as serious as this. I hope that this will be a learning experience, and that online platforms will take a more nuanced approach to discussions about suicide in the future. Violent content seems to be everywhere online—I can’t believe I couldn’t spend one hour talking about suicide prevention to help our community. If you missed the Q&A after we removed the flagged word, you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/live/NkQJ2VEy0S0
