Insurance and Payment plans?

So, my therapist recently recommended nocd, because they have more therapists qualified to treat OCD. Mine is pretty mild, but it has escalated since I moved out (or, maybe it's just more apparent). Either way, the website says my insurance is in-network, but I got an email saying this wasn't the case. The out-of network cost is expensive, and the amount of debt I'd incur with the payment plan is exorbitant. I've emailed to double check, but I am a little frustrated, because I want to get better, but the economic cost of getting better seems too high with the options I currently know of. Does anyone have recommendations? Thank you!

I would wait till you get the email and check with your insurance about the out-of-network costs, to see how much you would actually incur for costs. My other recommendation would be: look up the IOCDF website (International OCD Foundation). Go to the help section and look up therapists specializing in OCD within your zip code. You can filter by insurance too. Then, once you get the narrowed down list, call up each one and double-check if your insurance is accepted and how much the co-pay would be, whether it would be virtual or in-person, etc. Most of the ones I've checked this way are, unfortunately, not in network with insurances or ANY INSURANCES (really unfortunate, I know). I wish you the best of luck in healing. Also, congrats on moving out. That takes great bravery and a lot of people won't think it's big, but it is huge. Bold. Brave. Congrats. I hope I can do the same with a healed mind, soon, God-willing, so definitely give yourself a huge pat on the back for doing something good for your well-being. I wish you well, and I wish your OCD a good death out of your life.

Thank you! Moving out was terrifying, but my brother had some substance issues, and I decided it would be better to be somewhere else, and not feel guilty (since I could only do so much, you know?). But, then the OCD flared. I mean, it's always been there, but I just thought something was wrong with me. But thank you. ♡ Honestly, it's a little lonely, but I'm happy there's nothing I have to fear when coming home. I just hope that I can learn to deal with it better soon, so that I can bring a pet into my life. Also, thank you so much! I'll definitely look into it! And I hope your OCD leaves you as well. I know it's hard, and honestly, just being aware of it and having to deal with it makes you brave as well. It's a hard illness to deal with.

@Anonymous - You're most welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your brother and the substance issues problem, that is very tough. It makes a lot of sense that you moved out and then the OCD spiked. I hope you're able to find the help you need to bring down OCD to manageable levels, soon. It is a very interesting disorder to me, because it tailors itself to each person's fears, which makes it not standardized... but the treatment is the same. I'm still struggling with response prevention in my case. Best of luck.

What type of insurance do you have? What kind of plan? I would call the number on your insurance card and ask about how much a copay would be. Best of luck

Thinking of trying therapy

I’m considering trying therapy through nocd. This is too heavy for me to try and hold in anymore. I had a really bad night last night. I don’t want to use my mom’s insurance so I’d be self pay. Has anyone tried and is it worth it in your opinion? I’m afraid this is starting to affect my relationship and even my job+ feels more debilitating than ever. I think it might be time I’m also so shy. I wish I could do text therapy rather than phone visit 😫 any advice? I’m sure it’s not as bad as I imagine it’ll be. If anything I’ll bet it’s nice and I won’t feel the need to hold back. I’m also not diagnosed yet, has anyone gotten a diagnosis from doing therapy this way?

Getting through life when therapy is unaffordable

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a difficult situation and I wanted to ask for some advice. I recently finished my studies and I am living from my savings while I look for a job. However this process has turned out to be a lot more difficult and tedious than I expected. I suspect I have OCD as I relate to a lot of the experiences described here, in particular those corresponding to pure OCD. I have continuous intrusive thoughts about how what I'm currently doing is not enough, I constantly need to reassured that what I'm doing is right, with some magical thinking and concerns about my relationship sprinkled in. These intrusive thoughts have made it very difficult to make any significant progress in looking for something. Added to this I'm not even sure I have OCD as I don't have the money to afford therapy right now (my mind keeps telling me that it's silly to write this message because there's no way I have OCD). I live in Switzerland so as far as I understand my insurance won't cover sessions with NOCD. In conclusion I'm a bit stuck, therapy would help with finding a job but I need a job to get therapy. If any of you have had any similar experience and have some piece of advice it would be very welcome.
