What’s the best SSRI or med (combo, if)?

What dose? How long did it take? Some people say Wellbutrin or anti psychotics have helped the ssri eliminate ocd! I also know some people don’t respond well to some ssris or dose, so I’m just trying to get others experiences about the timeline it took to get better and what percent reduction you had with ___ med(s) I’m on 3 weeks of lexapro the lowest dose and I’m not sure if it’s the best fit or too low a dose. I’ve heard it takes 2 months to see a result. I’ve had ocd for a year and a bit over as a result of being roofied. Thanks!

For me it was lexapro at 20 mg every day. In my case, it took only about a week to see positive results when I initially started to take it. I started with 10 mg and eased my way to 20 mg. Every up tick in dose those, I felt a bit worse for a couple of days till my body got used to it. That’s my experience with it. Hope I was of help😊

@MatiasP99 I’m on lexapro and have been taking it for about a little over a week or so now but don’t notice anything getting better

@Cdawicki2002 Give it time. Everyone is different. I usually react to medication quite quickly anyways so maybe that’s why it helped me see results faster… but tbh it depends on the person. Give it at least 1-2 months. It sucks but stick with it. Be patient😊 medication is not a miracle drug though too. It takes the edge off. Combined with therapy is what truly works

@MatiasP99 How much of a reduction in your ocd have you noticed it? How long have you been on 20mgs? I’m on 10mgs of lexapro, maybe I’ll adjust to 20 although I’ve been taking it only for 3weeks My ocd is better in that I’m more able to just ignore it. Maybe a slight reduction. When you say you felt worse, like in ocd or or fatigue etc?

@mhassan0117 My OCD was really bad. Technically I’m still in the middle of that flare up and it’s been over a year 😅 but don’t let me discourage you. That’s just my case. But for me, I saw an improvement in being able to ignore and do ERP within a couple of weeks. I’ve been taking 20 mg for about 10 months now and it’s working well. OCD definitely reacts better to higher dosses of SSRIs. But you need to do therapy and medication. It works just be patient. It got worse when id go up in dose in the sense my OCD would spike a bit but for like a day and then get better. Hopefully I was able to help😊

You were very helpful! Thank you! I’ve also had it for a year too! Somehow I’m reading people have had complete remission with an ssri and Wellbutrin or an anti psychotic? What do you think about that? Lexapro is well rated on Reddit and stuff and I know it’s helping me not feel as distressed about it or more flexible, I can’t afford erp right now but I’ve read it’s very helpful! Do you use this app for that?

@mhassan0117 Yeah! Everyone is different right so it whatever works for you. OCD never really goes away but I have heard cases where it’ll kinda go away “dormant” for a bit as my psychiatrist put it. That’s why it’s important to do ERP to learn skills so when it does pop its ugly head again, yk how to handle it. I have my own psychologist in person. It’s definitely costly but I’d recommend visiting one at least once so they can guide you. A book that really helped me is called “Stop Obsessing: How to Overcome Obsessions and Compulsions”. It was recommended by my psychiatrist and it has its own guided ERP to do on your own to help you. Hope that helps 😁

OCD and Zoloft (Sertraline)

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!

Managing OCD without SSRIs

Hey everyone, I’m curious if anyone here is managing their OCD without SSRIs. I’ve personally struggled with side effects in the past such as low libido and emotional numbness. I have plans to have a family and kids in the future, so SSRIs don’t feel like a long-term solution for me—I’m especially afraid of PSSD (post-SSRI sexual dysfunction). Are any of you managing OCD with alternatives like Wellbutrin, SNRIs, Adderall, NAC, Myo-inositol or any other supplements. Even approaches like the ketogenic diet or other functional methods? I read some studies about how Keto diet has helped some people put their OCD in remission. I’d love to hear what’s actually working for you. Trigger Warning: Sometimes hearing that people can’t manage OCD without SSRIs can be discouraging, but I’m staying hopeful that there are sustainable alternatives out there. Thanks in advance for sharing.
