Name your OCD

I came across an older post on here about someone saying they gave a name to their OCD. I finally stuck a name to mine. Originally I was gonna go with "Ria", named after my friend at work that stresses me out and "Mr. Hyde" but that was too cliché for me. I went with "The Bug" named after a song by the same name by the band Crumb. It's been some days but it feels like it makes a difference already. It distances myself from it and giving it a name feels like it's a different entity that isn't me. I recommend you do the same if you haven't done so yet.

Heck yeah I did this last week with my therapist. I call the OCD resident in my brain Felicia. "BYE FELICIA" that's what I tell her. Ifkyk 😆

Mine is just simply…. “A-hole” and that’s what my ocd therapist and I call it together

I named mine after Milhouse from The Simpsons. I try to envision the thoughts in his voice. It helps a bunch! My ERP therapist helped me come up with this!

I’ve been referring to my OCD as a Border Collie! Anxious, excited, loud, trying to herd me places. So I’ve named my OCD Ollie the Collie Dog. This reframing helps me with ignoring intrusive thoughts. Instead of spiraling I just pretend I’m telling a dog to drop a ball and walking away best I can.

Exactly! It feels different when you stop calling it "my mind", "my brain", "my other self", or something like that. It gives me the feeling that I can separate it from me.
