Am I overreacting? Cheating jokes

So, a few months or maybe weeks ago. My boyfriend invited me to go with him to his grandparents cookout, cuz she invited him so he wanted to bring me with. Basically, his mom told all of us that some girl at my bf’s job was asking for him, and this made me feel a little jealous but I didn’t say anything. but my bf replied that “i don’t know this girl” and “I don’t know who you’re were talking about”, and they laughed and said “yeah that’s the right thing to say” ,, “pretend you don’t know” ,, then they mentioned something about me that I can’t remember. as if they were making a joke about him cheating This hurt me so much that I just stopped talking, I am already an insecure person. and who in their right mind would think a joke like that would be funny in the first place no matter the context? This made me feel so lowly.

it was definitely a shitty thing for her to say, especially in front of people, but try to focus on the fact your boyfriend said he didn’t know who the girl is. if this keeps happening it might be good to bring it up/ maybe tell her that you understand she’s kidding but cheating jokes make you uncomfortable. for now just try to focus on your boyfriend and how he reacted. best of luck to you <3

@King Silly if it’s eating away at you then yeah maybe, if not then i’d wait for it to happen again (maybe it was a one time thing/ mistake?) then bring it up. but if you are still mad about it then yeah you can

@itgirl96 Im glad I am not crazy for feeling really hurt by this, also, I’m not quite certain, she just straight up said that, and a few others were saying it too. I wanted to cry, I wanted to go in a different room but I didn’t want to draw attention

@King Silly You are not crazy for feeling hurt by that! Your feelings are valid! Anyone that cares would be hurt by it! I think that’s a private discussion you and your partner should have and talk to him about it and let him know how that made you feel and maybe just maybe your partner could talk to his mom about that and let him know. I feel like your partner should’ve stood up for you and that moment and said that’s not cool or you shouldn’t joke about things like that something in that nature to not make you feel alone in that moment now I’m not blaming any one or trying to make you overthink or anything like that if I am, I am so sorry. but I really feel like your boyfriend should’ve said something immediately to stop all of that because like I said your feelings are valid and that would make anyone cry because that’s not something to joke about and like I said before I find that very disrespectful so I feel like that’s something you should calmly talk about with your partner, and so some boundaries could be said because making jokes about cheating or things like that even though your boyfriend said he didn’t know who the other female was I think that’s something that needs To be checked because if not, the mom in the family will keep doing that and it will just add more problems and insecurity in the relationship! I have a gentle question for you have you and the mom had any problems back then?
