PANS Awareness Day
October 9 is PANS Awareness Day. If you haven't heard of PANS or PANDAS, you're not alone—but that needs to change. When these conditions go untreated, they can be life-threatening and may continue into adulthood. What are PANS & PANDAS? PANS & PANDAS are conditions, often triggered by an infection (like strep throat), which cause sudden and severe psychiatric symptoms. Seemingly overnight, they can leave previously healthy people unable to eat, consumed by OCD behaviors, and/or showing dramatic personality changes. These conditions are most common in children, with an average age of onset between the ages of 3 and 13—but can also impact adults. PANS and PANDAS are treatable, especially when caught early. At NOCD, we provide individualized OCD treatment for people of all ages, including adults, teens and children impacted by PANS/PANDAS. Too many people have gone without effective, specialized care due to misunderstandings and misdiagnoses. That's why awareness matters so much. Swipe through to learn about signs of PANS/PANDAS, how these conditions are treated, and how you can help raise awareness. 💚 Have you heard about PANS or PANDAS before? Do you know someone impacted? #PANSPANDASAwareness
