Do I have any pals on here navigating autism and OCD? I sometimes feel like the care instructions for the two divergences are kind of opposite—it’s hard to know what to tackle with exposure therapy and what to seek accommodation for. I try to err on the side of gentleness as much as possible, but obvs OCD doesn’t always approve. 💕🌈💐🦄🫧

I'm Autistic+OCD. And yeah, I know what you mean. Its really just getting to know to identify what's OCD and what's part of being autistic really. We often require more then just ERP when it comes to care, and that sucks when not many therapists have knowledge about either adult autism or OCD, let alone both. Cool to meet someone else like me in the wild.

I think having both is such a unique experience, when im ruminating it makes me more prone to things like autism meltdowns etc. And general over stimulation
I'm currently in the process of being tested for Autism, I took the Raad's and am definitely on the spectrum. I scored 149 ("normal" people are 60 below). I have ADHD, which was my first diagnosis, and ocd later on, and it's all new to me. Sometimes I feel so broken with all the contradictories my brain makes, and it makes it hard. @Vexie I feel that sometimes too, like I have too many brain-tabs open at any given time! OCD, PTSD, yet-to-be-official Autism, AND Codependents Anonymous! Thank goodness there’s lovely communities for All the Things! 💐💐💐

I have many traits, doctors suspected HFA as a kid, but I don't meet all the criteria for the disorder. Some of them are better explained with schizotypy, too.
I have both autism and OCD.
I got tested for autism but I'm still waiting for the results
It’s on the table for me, as is an official adhd diagnosis (as well as an ocd one) cuz autism runs in my family (my brother is autistic) but I got gaslit last time I tried to seek one😃

They have put ASD on the table for me. I haven't dealt with getting a yes or no on it yet.
@Newerthannewb82 Same! I took the ASQ inventory on Embrace Autism and it felt like finding a secret key! But the idea of getting an official “diagnosis” feels overwhelming. 🌈🌈🌈
Unfortunately I have autism + ocd. My autism symptoms suck and my ocd latches onto some of them making it worse.

I have these both too! I'm always looking for therapy for both. How can I tackle exposure therapy with autism? Masking is a big issue and sometimes I verbally shut down.
@BlueSeaWave I like doing exposure therapy on NOCD because it kinda gamifies it. Plus it’s nice to have a constructive choice when my brain would prefer to spiral instead. I’ll look forward to seeing how things go for you! 🙂
I have both, and have definitely found it difficult to navigate accommodations vs acceptance. Like, when I'm feeling burn out and don't want to go to work, it's hard to tell if it's self-care to take a personal day, or if it's avoidance. I also think I take everything a bit too literally. Compulsions are "evil" in my mind (which could be a combo of autism and OCD), and if I do one I'm failing at therapy. Makes it hard to accept and move on.
