What country are you from? Try not to rewrite your notes and instead sit with the anxiety of them not being perfect. I used to rewrite my notes all the time so I’ve been there. I found out that because of my OCD I qualify for a peer note taker. I’m not sure how things are in your country, but in the U.S. I can pick someone in the class who I know takes good notes and they get paid to take notes for me so I just have to focus. I don’t have to obsess over notes. Maybe look into something like that. The situation you’re describing is very similar to mine a few years ago. My freshman year I failed a lot of classes because of my OCD. The worst part is your teachers think you don’t care because you have bad grades, but really the problem is that you care too much. So much that it’s crippling. I promise things get better with medication and working with your therapist. Not perfect. Never perfect. There’s no such thing as perfect. But better. Remember that your work doesn’t need to be perfect. It’s more important that you turn an assignment in on time than that it’s your best work. Just getting it done without worrying about the quality will get you decent grades whereas not turning something in on time because it isn’t perfect will get you an F. It’s so hard to do, but so worth it.

To whoever wrote and then deleted their comment, I am so sad. I was coming up with encouragement to write you back. Let me know if you’d still like my advice on dealing with academic OCD.

That was me, I’m new to the app, wrote my first comment and panicked that I was wrong so I deleted it. I would love any advice you have coz I’m still worried I’m going to fail from having to repeat the same work over and over and not do work I actually need to do! X

@Rebecca :) I would recommend that no matter how hard it is you stop rewriting your notes. Sit with the anxiety that they are not perfect. Your notes are just for you. Nobody else sees them. As long as you know what they mean it doesn’t matter what they look like. It sounds like you’re in a similar place to where I was my freshman year. I failed a lot of classes because my OCD and ADHD were out of control. It does get better though with meds and a therapist. You need to remember that your work doesn’t have to be perfect. Work that is just done and not perfect will get you a decent grade. Work that isn’t turned in or is turned in late because it’s not perfect will get you an F. Just turn in what you have even though it isn’t perfect and sit with the anxiety. I know it’s hard, but it’s hardest the first time and then it gets a little easier.
