Is anyone willing to share their experiences with taking these SSRIs? I want to give them a shot. I'm sick of sleepless nights, anxiety that is too much, and not being able to do the things I want in life because of OCD. I would really appreciate this.
hey! so i dont take either of these, I do take zoloft though which is also an ssri so I think my experience can be of some help? I take 100 mg and ive had a really positive experience. the first couple of weeks it was a little tough just getting used to it, I had insomnia a couple of nights and I just hoped and prayed it would work out. I wanted it SO badly to work immediately but ofc it takes time. after a couple of months is when I realized that I felt so much calmer and at ease. I was no longer crying over everything and feeling anxious the very second I woke up. it was easier to do my exposures and I just overall started feeling better. ive been on zoloft for about 9 months and I have no plans of stopping. it has made my life overall better and im very grateful for it. I highly recommend trying out meds for OCD to see if it can work for you <3
That's a very nice, uplifting story. Thank you! I'm currently struggling with insomnia as is and it's the reason I want to take medication. How did you go about it? Did you tell your parents or did you just do it? I think I may have to do both
@BigGyro09 i just had insomnia for a couple of days, I think it was just my body adjusting but that side effect went away very quickly for me! you might just have some initial side effects but over time it'll get better! Im thinking if your insomnia is due to the anxiety, meds will help reduce the anxiety and you'll be able to sleep better, but definitely talk to a doctor about that so you can get the right prescription! as for telling your parents, if you're a minor I dont think you can get around that. but because im an adult i made the choice for myself to start meds and I did tell the people around me just so they were aware that I might have some side effects
@cherryblossoms I'm an adult. I just want them to be aware of that so they aren't in the dark and I want to do it regardless of their say. I just get scared of thinking about opening up to them but I know if I do it'll be a huge step for my life.
@BigGyro09 oh I totally understand that! it can be scary to open up to your parents about having ocd, ik it was hard for me but i felt relieved having my mom know about it and know how it affects me. she still doesnt really understand sometimes but she does her best. and at first she tried to convince me not to take medications because she just has a bias against them, but I didn't listen to her. taking meds has been one of the best choices for me. so as long as you dont let your parents opinions affect your treatment, I think its a good thing to tell them so they can understand you better! as long as you feel safe, comfortable, and ready to talk about it, I say go for it :)
@cherryblossoms Yeah I'm for medication at this point because I don't know what else could help me. My mom too had a medication bias and I don't blame her to be honest. I can understand why she's scared and it sort of scares me too, but I know that if I don't try this out I'm not ever going to get better and my sleep is doing to get worse and worse. I have to at least try. She's aware of my bad sleep and is also aware that I'm in therapy. She rejected medication but I'm going to try and bring it up again. I just want her to know that I want to do that
@BigGyro09 it is scary! unfamiliar things always are! but you never know until you try :) i hope youre able to get started on meds and see if thats the right option for you! Wishing you all the best <3

I just got my SSRI’s and I’m kinda nervous to take them so I was wondering if anyone has had a good or bad experience with them.
Can people please share their experiences on very low dose medications for their OCD? Maybe ones that have worked well with little side effects? Anything is helpful & thank you
So I’ve been off sertraline 50 mg for a couple months now after being on it for 3 years. I got off cuz I was getting bad side effects from it like gaining hella weight and low libido. My anxiety has been so bad so I’m considering trying Prozac since apparently the side effects are less. What’s your experience with it/does it help your anxiety from your intrusive thoughts? I mainly have just somatic ocd
